Applications are invited for the role of Mechanical Biased Multi-Skilled Maintenance Craftsperson within the Estates Department at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH). This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated team, playing a vital role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of essential hospital services.
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual who has successfully completed a recognised mechanical craft apprenticeship (such as EITB, CITB, or an equivalent approved scheme), ideally supported by qualifications at HNC/HND level or demonstrable equivalent experience.
The successful candidate will bring a strong multi-skilled capability, evidenced by completion of a recognised multi-skilling course (City & Guilds or equivalent), or substantial relevant experience across multiple disciplines.

Main duties of the job
To undertake a multi-skilled role to carry out maintenance, repairs and inspection of building, mechanical and electrical services, associated systems, plant and equipment in accordance with relevant standards, legislative requirements and operational procedures.
To assist the Team Leader in leading and supervising the Estates Department trades personnel, multi-skilled technicians and external contractors. Provide support, advice and assistance to qualified and semi-skilled staff to ensure that the Foundation Trusts assets are running efficiently. Co-ordinate and plan work for staff delegated into his/her charge.
The post holder will be expected to carry out both routine and complex maintenance requests in an efficient and effective manner to support successful delivery of a customer focussed estate maintenance service for the Foundation Trust and assist the Team Leader in the management and supervision of in house and contract labour to ensure effective maintenance and operation of all buildings, plant and associated services.

Qualifications/Training and Professional Development Essential
Must have completed a recognised electrical or mechanical apprenticeship such as EITB, CITB or similar, approved apprenticeship scheme Must have completed an appropriate multi-skilling course to City & Guilds level or equivalent, or must have appropriate multi-skilling experience.
Desirable
Formal training, ideally in an engineering discipline to HNC/HND level, or commensurate level of experience.
Experience Essential
Have an understanding of the operational procedures and safe working practices of major items of plant and systems such as: oHeating and domestic water services. oVentilation plant and associated systems. oSterilisation and decontamination equipment. oMedical gas pipeline system and associated plant Diesel Oil systems. oNatural gas fired equipment oBuilding Management System (BMS) Have an awareness of the operational procedures and safe working practices of major items of plant and systems, such as: oEmergency generating equipment. oLifts Experienced in risk management, including undertaking audits, risk assessments, method statements, undertaking Authorised Persons duties and issuing/managing permit to work systems
Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge Essential
Able to interpret technical information and advise staff on maintenance issues. Ability to use a wide range of test equipment. Ability to formulate solutions to improve performance, selection of suitable equipment and/or parts to repair plant, equipment and buildings. Ability to prioritise work when urgent demands or emergencies arise
Aptitude Essential
Prepared to work rostered shifts which ensures 24-hour on-site cover 365 (6) days a year, and to provide cover for colleagues who may be absent. Must hold a current valid driving licence and be willing to use personal vehicle for business use.
