Job summary

We are excited to announce that our Paediatric Emergency Department at Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary are looking for Registered Children's Nurse to join our friendly, supportive and growing team as a Band 5 Staff Nurse. This is an excellent opportunity to expand your skills and be part of an evolving and developing service.

The Department provide cares for children with acute and urgent physical and mental health needs, as well as complex and long term conditions.

There are opportunities for professional development and preceptorship programmes to support and aid development. The department has a clinical educator who provides Emergency Department specific support and training.

Main duties of the job

Are you looking for a challenge and excited about working in a fast-paced, innovative environment? We are seeking enthusiastic nurses at Band 5 level to join our Children and Young Persons Emergency Department team.

The Emergency Department is a friendly, dynamic work place that prides itself on the health and well being of it's staff and team work approach to all situations.

Main duties of this role include: providing high quality nursing care and supporting team members to maintain best practice to all patients and visitors whilst following hospital and departmental policies. The safety of self, colleagues, patients and visitors in the Emergency Department.

We provide community health services, including sexual health services in Calderdale from Calderdale Royal and local health centres. These include Todmorden Health Centre and Broad Street Plaza.

Job description Job responsibilities

To contribute to a culture that recognises and works in partnership with patients and their families, involving them in all decisions.

provide evidenced based, high quality assessment and care to children and their families attending the Emergency Department develop and maintain advanced Emergency Nursing skills. To have a willingness to take on extended roles i.e. IV administration/cannulation/Venepuncture, Care of central lines and other clinical roles linked to the department. To work within the NMC code of professional practice, and within policies, procedures and guidelines of Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Trust. To ensure that high standards of nursing care are given and maintained. To act when standards are not being maintained. Ensure safe and effective clinical practice and enhance patient experience.

To recognise changes in a patients condition which require the intervention of others and refer on as appropriate. To act as an advocate for the patient and the family, including promoting and protecting their interests, rights equality and inclusion and privacy. To act as a Link Nurse within a defined speciality/ interest area To be involved in trust Initiatives to improve patient safety and care.

Person Specification

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING Essential

NMC Registered Nurse in relevant field of practice (or within 6 months of completing a validated BSc or MSc course, resulting in NMC registration) Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor qualification or willingness to complete

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE Essential

Knowledge and skill to plan, deliver, and evaluate high quality, evidence-based nursing care to a group of patients within the speciality of the post Experience of working with patients, and those that matter to them, from a range of diverse cultures and backgrounds Experience of working as part of a team, with the ability to prioritise own workload. Knowledge and skill in infection prevention and control principles and procedures Knowledge and skill in safeguarding principles and procedures IT literacy and ability to use NHS systems Competence in speciality or role specific extended skills required of the post or willingness to undertake necessary training
