About this role

Job summary

We are excited to offer this new and innovative post for highly motivated applicants who wish to develop their skills and portfolio in medical education and leadership, whilst also having the opportunity to continue to maintain their clinical skills in the clinical area of their choosing.

The post has been designed for resident doctors who are looking to take a 12-month break from formal training and are currently working at ST3+ level.

Main duties of the job

Delivery of the programme of clinical teaching for undergraduate medical students and other learners.

Leadership of the medical education faculty including scheduling, design and delivery of teaching.

Developing a systematic approach to evaluation and quality assurance of the teaching programmes delivered.

Managing a whole spectrum of emergency patients relevant to the chosen clinical specialty.

Working clinically within competency within the clinical area, supporting the delivery of service.

Assistance and supervision of other resident doctors and members of the multi-disciplinary team with the management of patients

Quality assurance of the service and individual practice

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

MBchB/MBBS or equivalent Completion of Core Training or equivalent within the parent specialty Completion of Specialty Trainee level 2 training or equivalent experience. Full MRCP (which is part 1,2 and paces) or MRCS (surgical equivalent) or equivalent Applicants must have full GMC registration and continue to hold a Licence to Practise

Desirable

Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education (or similar)

Experience and Achievements Essential

Must be able to demonstrate clinical experience and competence in parent Specialty expected of a doctor at ST3 and above level Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on a range of problems within the Speciality and to support the junior medical colleagues and nursing team. Competence in procedural skills relevant to the level of the post Ability to assess a critically ill patient

Desirable

Ability and willingness to learn from colleagues, senior and other sources. Previous experience in chosen specialty at ST1/2 equivalent grade/level (minimum) Previous NHS experience Previous experience of leadership roles with evidence of performance

Teaching and training Essential

Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of medical students, junior colleagues and other healthcare professionals.

Desirable

Evidence of experience within medical education e.g. Med. Ed. projects, placements/roles, posters, publications

Audit and Research Desirable

Knowledge of Audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects

Practical/Intellectual Skills/Personal Qualities Desirable

Evidence of continual learning and development
