This includes standardised roles, data-led incident analysis and proactive compliancewith emerging national requirements such as Martyn's Law (Protect Duty) and evolving UK security legislation.Working closely with the Associate Director for Portering & Logistics, Group Support Services and senior siteleaders, you will strengthen Trust-wide capability in incident management, threat intelligence and emergencyresponse.This is a visible and influential role requiring strong operational expertise, resilience and strategic foresight. Youwill set clear expectations, model best practice and build a responsive, professional security service thatanticipates risk and safeguards the wellbeing of all who use our hospitals.
Main duties of the job
Lead the operational design and delivery of security services across all Barts Health hospitals, ensuring effectivemanagement of incident response, access control, CCTV and staff safety systems in line with NHS SecurityManagement Standards and statutory legislation. Embed consistent governance, audit and reporting throughdigital platforms, intelligence-led analysis and robust performance monitoring.Use data and incident trend analysis to identify risk, predict patterns and inform decision-making at site andgroup level. Develop and implement standardised operating models, supporting local managers to deliverresponsive, high-performing services aligned to clinical operations and patient flow. Provide leadership to theOperations Analyst, ensuring high-quality benchmarking and performance insight.Work collaboratively with Estates and Facilities, clinical teams, emergency services, local authorities and policepartners to strengthen joint risk assessment, emergency preparedness and investigation processes. Ensurecompliance with Martyn's Law (Protect Duty), NHS Protect guidance and relevant legislation, leading readinessreviews and embedding training and testing.Oversee security systems, contracts and technologies, ensuring integration with wider Soft FM and Trust ICTinfrastructure. Manage budgets and resources effectively, deliver cost improvement plans and maintainstatutory compliance.

Experience Essential
Significant demonstrable experience in seniorlevel management of security operations, preferably within a large and complex healthcare or public sector environment. Experience of leading and managing change within a complex environment. Experience of developing and implementing threat and risk assessments, incident response plans and emergency preparedness arrangements. Proven track record in using digital platforms and data analytics to improve operational performance and inform strategic decisionmaking. Experience in managing budgets, forecasting, and delivering cost improvement plans within a complex organisation. Evidence of leading organisational change and influencing behavioural and cultural improvement in operational teams. Proven experience of partnership working with emergency services, external agencies and contractors.
Skills Essential
Strong leadership, communication and influencing skills, able to engage confidently with staff, managers, and senior leaders across disciplines. Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability, with the capability to interpret data and translate insight into action. Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects and stakeholders within demanding timeframes. Calm and decisive under pressure, with proven experience in incident command or emergency response settings. Effective presentation and report-writing skills, with the ability to convey complex issues clearly to diverse audiences. Sound understanding of performance management principles and ability to use KPIs to drive improvement. High level of professional autonomy and ability to exercise sound judgement.
Knowledge Essential
Comprehensive understanding of NHS Security Management Standards, Protect Duty (Martyn's Law), and relevant UK counterterrorism and safeguarding legislation. Knowledge of health and safety law and its application to large, complex estates. Understanding of emergency planning, resilience, and business continuity in healthcare environments. Knowledge of modern security technologies, including access control, CCTV, digital incident systems, and data analysis tools. Awareness of information governance, confidentiality, and data protection principles within a security context. Knowledge of the relationship between Soft FM services and operational healthcare delivery.
Qualifications Essential
Educated to master's degree level or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline such as security management, emergency planning, or facilities management. Recognised professional qualification in security or risk management (e.g. ASIS CPP, ISMI, or similar). Formal training in emergency planning, business continuity or crisis management (e.g. JESIP, EPRR, or equivalent).
Other Essential
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong influencing and negotiation skills with the ability to manage complex, sensitive and contentious issues with professionalism and discretion. Able to manage pressure, prioritise effectively and respond decisively to emerging situations
