Job summary
A Vacancy has arisen within the Facilities for a Porter to join our team. We are looking for a motivated person with a positive attitude. A good team player with good communication skills.
The successful candidate will be flexible to cover the demands of the service and be able to adapt to changes within the department and have the ability and initiative to learn new skills and work independently. The role is physical and requires walking for long periods of time.
Candidates must be willing to pursue relevant training and be competent in learning to drive a small electric tug within the hospital and grounds. Have basic IT knowledge. Must be reliable and be able to prioritise workload.
Main duties of the job
Permanent, full time position
To meet the requirements of the post, the porter will provide an effective service for the Rotherham General Hospital, escorting patients between wards and departments via wheelchair and Bed. Transporting equipment, mail, meals, specimens, linen, waste and moving furniture. Required to use electric Tug to transport waste and linen.
Out of Hours working under their own volition, i.e. prioritising their own jobs, and taking direction from the Supervisor.
Work in high-pressure areas to ensure safe and timely patient transfers.
Required to carry a mobile telephone to access patient transfers of the electronic Teletracking system. May be required to drive Trust vehicle as and when required.

Ability to perform Moving & Handling tasks and use electric tugs and movers to transfer items around the Trust site. Use own initiative when dealing with day-to-day tasks.

Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently between TRFT sites and for patient visits in the Rotherham area and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010. Willing to work towards relevant NVQ qualification. Computer literate
