Job summary This is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Anaesthetist, with special interest in Paediatric Cardiac Anaesthesia. This post will be available from as soon as possible for a period of six months.
Main duties of the job This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the paediatric cardiac anaesthetic team. There will be opportunities to work with other consultant colleagues in the provision of a comprehensive Anaesthetic service in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust.
The post-holder will join a vibrant group of Paediatric Cardiac Anaesthetists who are very driven and patient-centred in providing comprehensive anaesthetic service at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. They will be required to participate in the undergraduate teaching programme for the school of Medicine, University of Leeds, which is organised on a speciality or clinical area basis. To support service plans for the specialty, taking account of the changes in clinical practice and new technologies available. To participate in and progress Clinical Governance

The successful applicant should hold accreditation in the FRCA in the Royal College of Anaesthetics or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director. The post holder shall be fully registered with the GMC and hold a current licence to practice in the UK at time of application.
Applicants should have established skills in paediatric cardiac anaesthesia and have undertaken at least 12 months advanced training in this area. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

Why you should join our Team The Paediatric Cardiac Anaesthesia team is part of Leeds Children Hospital, a large quaternary referral Hospital in the Northeast of England. All surgical and diagnostic specialties are represented with exception of Paediatric Heart transplant.
This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the paediatric cardiac anaesthetic team. This is a locum post within the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The base for this post is at the Leeds General Infirmary site where the Leeds Children’s hospital is situated. The successful applicant will join an existing paediatric team of 29 consultant paediatric anaesthetists. This team is part of a larger Trust team of over 150 consultant anaesthetists who have a wide range of subspecialty interests and responsibilities
What you will bring to the role Provision of Anaesthesia for children requiring cardiac surgery and investigations such as cardiac catheterisation and MRI. Supervision of patients following anaesthesia Contribute to Specialist Multi-disciplinary team meetings To contribute to research, teaching and new developments within the Trust
To work with other consultant colleagues in the provision of a comprehensive Anaesthetic service in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust.
To develop and/or consolidate expertise in Paediatric Cardiac Anaesthesia.
To maintain and expand the excellence of teaching and research already established within the Trust.
To support service plans for the specialty, taking account of the changes in clinical practice and new technologies available.
To participate in and progress Clinical Governance.
The appointee must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of anaesthesia and appropriate experience in paediatric cardiac anaesthesia.
The Trust as a teaching hospital recognises the importance of links with the University of Leeds, School of Medicine for the undergraduate teaching and all Consultant and medical staff are required to provide an appropriate contribution to the undergraduate teaching programme.
The post-holder will be required to participate in the undergraduate teaching programme for the school of Medicine, University of Leeds, which is organised on a speciality or clinical area basis.
The appointee will be expected, with colleagues to also contribute to the teaching of postgraduates, including the teaching programme for Resident doctors in anaesthesia in the Yorkshire Deanery.
