QualificationsThis position has a positive Education/Experience requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience as described below: Transcripts must be submitted with your application package. You MUST meet one of the following requirements: Possess a degree that includes or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours in a field related to the work of the position to be filled, of which at least 9 semester hours must have been in education courses; OR, Possess a combination of education and experience with at least 24 semester hours in a field related to the work of the position to be filled, of which at least 9 semester hours have been in education courses, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience must reflect the level and kind described in the next bullet below; OR, Possess four years of experience that demonstrate a thorough understanding of the principles and practices underlying the work of this series. This experience must have been of such character and diversity to demonstrate that you possess an understanding of the field comparable to that normally acquired through successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university; OR, Possess at least 1 full academic year of professional teaching experience. This experience is defined as full and primary responsibility, under general supervision, for instruction of assigned students in an accredited school or institution. This includes responsibility for preparing and presenting lessons and for evaluating students' progress, including a determination of the students' success or failure according to established criteria. Serving in an assistant capacity to a professor without the authority to determine the students' success or failure to meet course requirements does not meet this criterion. In addition to meeting the minimum Education/Experience requirement, you must also meet the specialized experience requirements below: To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Developing instructional materials related to military history and/or maritime operations, researching new education technologies, and revising curricula to adapt materials to align with various age groups and learning styles; Creating museum exhibits for educational purposes. Developing or consulting on STEM educational programs in museums or other institutions to promote hands-on inquiry-based learning, such as interactive exhibits. Engaging diverse audiences ranging from young children to teens and adults communicating complex ideas in a dynamic way, leading tours and facilitating interactive workshops. Leading educational programs, school field trips, and adult lectures focusing on military values, history and culture. Major DutiesYou will serve as an Education Program Specialist and be responsible for managing the National Coast Guard Museum (NCGM) education program, which includes the NCGM's interpretive programming Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) - based educational programming, establishing multiple formal museum-based education programs, and conducting education outreach events. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Developing and implementing museum-wide programming working with contractor, museum curator, director of exhibits and programs to interpret and present the history and skills of the USCG in an interactive and immersive fashion to multiple audiences. Creating museum exhibits and presentations for educational purposes for audiences related to the USCG's history and missions. Developing STEM based programming for early education audiences, K-8, High School, and/or adult development participants. Coordinating the overall development, management, control, and execution of the STEM educational programs, developing plans of action to ensure established goals are met consistently and in a timely manner. Establishing and fostering external relationships with local, regional, national, and international institutions, historical and cultural organizations. Establishing and implementing a field trip program for grades 4 to 12, classroom- based learning, and museum presentations focusing on USCG's values, history, and culture. Interpreting and utilizing USCG, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), national education policies, laws, and directives to perform and promote education programs for (NCGM) audiences.
