QualificationsBasic Requirements: This position has a positive Education Requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience or substitution of education for experience or combination (if applicable) in order to be found minimally qualified. You MUST meet the following requirements: To qualify at the GS-5 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Reviewing applications; Responding to inquiries both oral and written received from the public and/or governmental agencies; AND Establishing priorities to meet deadlines OR Four years of education above high school. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post high school education and experience may be used to meet the total experience requirements. Major DutiesYou will serve as a Mariner Evaluation Clerk and be responsible for providing guidance and customer support to the Regional Exam Center Operations Division at the NMC. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Assists in the review of merchant mariner credential applications Prepares written and oral replies to maritime organizations and the general public concerning all aspects of credentialing maritime personnel Recommends process improvements to improve the credentialing program Assists in reviewing contradictions, conflicts and inconsistencies in documentation submitted in support of a merchant mariner credential application Reasonable Accommodation (RA) Requests: If you believe you have a disability (i.e., physical or mental), covered by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended that would interfere with completing the USA Hire Competency Based Assessments, you will be granted the opportunity to request a RA in your online application.
