Job summary
The role of the Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care department is to facilitate a safe, person centred and confidential service of spiritual and religious care that enables patients, their families and friends and members of staff to explore and negotiate their experience of life, illness, injury, loss or stress so that they can begin to find strength, support and meaning within it.
The post holder will be responsible for the spiritual, pastoral and faith care needs of patients and staff within Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, and a collaborative member of the chaplaincy team in fulfilling the goal of providing person-cantered spiritual and pastoral care to all patients, visitors and staff, irrespective of their religion or belief in line with best practice.
They will significantly contribute collaboratively to an effective Chaplaincy department, including education and training within the hospital.

Qualifications and Training Essential
oRecognised (Ordained/ licensed) and in current good standing with own Faith, Belief or Community. oEducated to university degree level - or equivalent experience, that embraces theological or philosophical understanding or equivalent. oComprehensive knowledge of Faith and Belief systems to be able to work in a multi-cultural/multi-faith context. oFurther studies relating to chaplaincy/counselling/ pastoral care

oCurrent membership in UKBHC
Experience Essential
Substantial experience of providing pastoral/spiritual care within your own belief group or faith community Demonstrable experience of delivering effective training and education relating to pastoral and spiritual care. Substantial ministerial/faith or belief group leadership experience following training and subsequent ordination (if ordination is applicable), or equivalent. Experience of delivering pastoral, spiritual and religious care in a health care setting.
Desirable
Experience of working with multi- disciplinary groups. 'Experience of working with people following trauma/life changing injury/ illness and end of life. Experience of supporting bereaved parents and arranging/conducting funerals.
Knowledge And Skills Essential
Theoretical knowledge on ethical issues relating to healthcare. To have good IT skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and to quickly learn patient management systems.
Personal Attributes Essential

Other Essential
To participate in the provision of the 24- hour on-call service, to provide emergency pastoral and spiritual care and to provide and/or facilitate religious care. Have the ability to attend either hospital within the 1 hour on-call standard. To demonstrate flexibility with the out of hours rota. To have own transport and be prepared and able to travel trust wide.
