About this role

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Theatre Clinical Educator to work with the Practice Development Nurse/Lead of the theatre team at Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust.

Band 6 positions available at both sites: University Hospital Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The Clinical Educator will provide direct clinical support/training, as well as facilitate and deliver teaching and educational programmes to all theatre staff.

Supervise and assess pre-registration students attending from 5 universities, including nursing, operating department practitioners, paramedics and midwives.

The post-holder will be an experienced, highly skilled, knowledgeable practitioner who provides leadership and management in practice development and education.

Staff Education & Induction: Designing and running induction programs and preceptorships for new theatre staff, as well as coordinating continuous professional development (CPD).

Clinical Credibility & Presence: Maintaining a highly visible clinical presence to provide hands-on support, lead by example, and assist the multidisciplinary team in complex surgical, anaesthetic, or recovery environments.

Competency Assessment: Evaluating and signing off on competencies for various surgical, anaesthetic and recovery skills.

Service Improvement: Working closely with theatre clinical leads and Matrons to translate new clinical guidelines, safety policies, and evidence-based practices into daily theatre routines.

Main duties of the job

To develop a culture of learning across all clinical areas within the Directorate

To provide high quality clinical support to new starters and inexperienced staff to enable them to develop their skills, values and competencies to ensure the delivery of high-quality care

Support the supervisors of staff and students within clinical placements at Lewisham and Greenwich Hospital Trust.

To identify areas of performance that may need improvement and work alongside the nursing workforce in the clinical areas, to achieve standardisation of practice.

To develop working relationships within the clinical areas and departmental teams and managers and educate them in the curriculums and requirements of all staff and students

Job description Job responsibilities

Promote standards of theatre practice in accordance with the Trusts guidelines and policies

Participate in clinical audits

Assist with the implementation of local and national initiatives

Work alongside supervisors and assessors to enhance their assessment skills and provide support for their everyday practice with the nursing workforce.

To develop and maintain working relationships with academic colleagues at our partners

To work with the senior clinical team to provide a suitable learning environment, promoting and facilitating evidence-based practice.

Monitor and review clinical and professional standards of care, reporting on performance, and instituting remedial action where necessary, with support from the Practice development Team

To work collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

BSc or equivalent Evidence of clinical/professional knowledge post registration clinical course relevant to theatre RN Adult/Paediatric registered nurse on the NMC register of ODP on HCPC register

Desirable

Practice teacher qualification Post registration qualification in adult nursing/education/leadership

Previous experience Essential

Experience with teaching and assessing students and staff in the clinical setting Practice Assessor qualification Understanding of resource management Clinical governance and risk management IT skills powerpoint/excel Experience of two or more years in theatre

Desirable

Post registration qualification in adult nursing/education/leadership Able and willing to work flexible shifts
