Fixed term maternity cover - until August 2027
This is an ideal opportunity for those who are passionate about working with preschool aged children with a range of speech, language and communication needs, in a clinic setting. Our caseload is primarily children under the age of 5, with opportunities to work with older children and young people who stammer or require support with their speech sounds.
You will work alongside Speech & Language Therapists and SLT Assistants, providing support to children and their families. You will deliver individual and group therapy, offer initial assessment and support the team with our daily drop-in clinic offer. We also work closely with Lewisham education settings, delivering training and support, and nursery visits for specific children.
There is opportunity to work more widely in the community with local Family Hubs and Early Years settings, delivering support and training focusing on promoting good communication development in the Early Years.
Main duties of the job
To deliver Speech and Language Therapy services to CYP seen by the Clinic Team To work with clinic link colleagues and clinic leads in the development of clinical pathways and service development projects To take responsibility for managing a clinic caseload, including triaging new referrals, managing queries, prioritisation, supporting staff and escalating to clinic leads where required To deliver a preventative service in settings across Lewisham To support negotiation with all stakeholders, including service users, around service implementation

Accountable to the Children and Young Peoples Therapies Manager
To provide as part of the Early Years service a comprehensive and inclusive speech and language therapy service for children and young people referred to this service. The children may present with a range of speech, language and communication needs of varying severity.
To contribute to successful child centred, multi-disciplinary assessment and intervention.
To independently assess, diagnose, manage and evaluate outcomes for children and young people presenting with a range of speech, language, communication needs.
To contribute to the development and provision of training packages and programmes for parents, carers and education and health staff.
To participate in the development, testing out and implementing of new ways of working.
The post holder will develop a clinical specialism within the broad range of speech, language and communication needs within the caseload

Qualifications and Training Essential
Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent Health Professions Council - Licence to Practice Registration as a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
Desirable
Membership of relevant Clinical Excellence Networks Post graduate study relevant to the field or equivalent specialist advanced short courses
Experience Essential
Able to demonstrate significant post qualification experience working with pre school aged children with a range of speech, language and communication needs. Significant experience working with parents/carers Experience of training others Experience of working with CYP aged 5+ Experience of working with partners and stakeholders in the community
Desirable
Experience of supporting other less experienced staff/students Experience of working with Speech and Language Therapy Assistants
Knowledge Essential
Working knowledge of national procedure, policies and legal frameworks relevant to the service area such as the Up to date knowledge of a range of assessments tools and intervention techniques relevant to children and young people with a variety of speech/language, communication, eating and drinking needs. Understanding of Equal Opportunities and the ability to reflect this in practice and interactions with others.
