Job summary

The People Team are the first point of contact for employees and managers, providing a proactive, professional service, and advice across the organisation.

The role is a blend of working with leaders across the Group to develop and support in the delivery of our business and people plans as well as providing practical HR support and service delivery.

Main duties of the job

As a line manager and part of a great People Team the role will be developing our employee experience and management practices, policies and procedures, and supporting in skills development.

Martlets provides essential care to people affected by terminal illness in Brighton and Hove and surrounding areas. Our expert teams provide the very best care and support, helping patients and their loved ones to live life to the full during the precious time they have together.

Job description Job responsibilities

Be a trusted and knowledgeable People Partner to managers and service leads,

providing expert advice and guidance on all people matters.

Build strong, credible working relationships to support good decision making and

great people management and leadership.

Working with senior managers and leaders to plan for future workforce

requirements including recruitment campaigns, restructure, high performance,

organisational change, and skills development.

Responsible for ensuring that case work is managed in a timely manner, working

with managers to ensure that employee relations matters are resolved at the lowest

level through appropriate intervention.

Provide support and guidance to managers to ensure plans are in place to quickly to

improve poor performance, barriers to motivation/retention and any issues arising

out of HR metrics including employee survey results.

Providing sound and professional HR advice, you will support service improvements

through creative people management practices.

Working collaboratively with managers and People Services colleagues, to identify

and implement initiatives to address the workforce challenges within business areas,

including providing advice and guidance to managers in the development of job

descriptions and person specifications, and participating in recruitment processes to

support with recruitment.

Monitor and report on the HR metrics including sickness absence, compliance, talent

management, turnover at monthly performance meetings.

Analyse workforce data relating to recruitment and retention, identifying actions

needed to address any areas of concern and ensuring the development and

implementation of any plans to address concerns.

Supervise the work of direct reports on a day-to-day basis and act as a point of

escalation for the People Services team for any queries that are more complex.

Develop workforce plans and strategies that address the workforce challenges and

(changing) service needs.

Work with the learning and development team to support the delivery of training

and development specifically in relation to employment legislation and our

employment policies and practices.

Build the confidence of managers to address people matters by acting as a trusted

sounding board, working with them to identify solutions, coach and develop their

skills and embed our employment policies and practices.

Maintain knowledge and solid understanding of the full range of HR policies,

employment legislation and best practice.

Promote fair, consistent and legally compliant people management practices.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Degree level education or equivalent work experience Level 5 CIPD qualification or equivalent practical work experience in a HR setting Evidence of CPD

Experience Essential

Proven experience of providing a wide range of HR advice and guidance to managers and employees on employee relations matters, HR Policies and Procedures. Proven experience of working with department managers about workforce and creating workforce solutions and future plans. Proven experience of managing a varied caseload including absence management, grievance, organisational change, performance management and disciplinary casework. Experience of coaching managers through their decision making. Proven experience of managing investigations, hearings and appeals. Demonstrable experience of dealing with HR/employment queries from the workforce at all levels, that may be complex in nature. Demonstrable experience of working with HR information systems. Experience of supervising or line managing.
