About this role

Job summary

We are seeking an exceptional, forward-thinking pharmacist to join our senior pharmacy leadership team at the Royal Gwent Hospital as Lead Pharmacist for Clinical Services. This is a pivotal role providing strategic and operational leadership for clinical pharmacy services across the site-based specialties, while also leading the Health Board's Clinical Trials and Clinical Informatics Pharmacy Services. You will play a key role in shaping, modernising, and delivering high-quality, patient-centred pharmacy services aligned with national standards and organisational priorities.

As a member of the site management team, you will influence service development, lead innovation in clinical informatics, and work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes and optimise medicines use.

Main duties of the job

Lead, develop and deliver high-quality clinical pharmacy services across multiple specialties.

Provide leadership and line management to pharmacists and wider pharmacy teams at the Royal Gwent Hospital.

Oversee and develop the ABUHB Clinical Trials Pharmacy Service, secure future investment and ensuring full regulatory compliance.

Drive service redesign and continuous improvement in line with best practice and strategic goals.

Provide expert clinical advice to multidisciplinary teams, contributing to complex patient care decisions.

Lead on medicines optimisation, governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.

Develop and implement clinical informatics solutions to support data-driven decision making.

Represent pharmacy at Directorate, Health Board, and All-Wales forums as required.

Contribute to financial stewardship, including monitoring high-cost medicines and delivering efficiency savings.

Skills and Attributes Essential

Up-to-date knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutics and principles of medicines management Role of pharmacists at ward level, in the pharmacy department and in the community Organisational abilities Analytical abilities Management/ leadership skills Excellent interpersonal/ communication skills Computer skills Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner Ability to build a rapport with patients, students and staff Flexible and adaptable to changing demands and situations Conscientious, responsible and reliable Highly motivated Able to function well under pressure Enthusiastic Innovative Good verbal and written communication skills Good with patients

Desirable

Knowledge of patient self-administration systems, one-stop dispensing systems etc. Knowledge of quality improvement methodology Experiences in utilising QI methods in change management Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh
