Main duties of the job
The post involves working at the Royal Gwent Hospital site and providing active medical input to patients admitted through the Acute Medical Unit to one of the in-patient wards. The post holder will be trained in the assessment and management of medical, psychological and social health of patients presenting to a General Internal Medical Intake.
The expectation of the role is to provide middle grade support as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a 30 bedded sub-speciality ward. The post holder will carry out independent ward rounds in addition to participating in consultant led ward rounds. You will participate in a rotational programme to experience all clinical aspects of medicine within the Royal Gwent Hospital and supported to meet individual training needs.
The post holder will be expected to participate in the senior on call rota which is currently 1:10 working both days and nights. You will be expected to take charge of the medical intake and on-call team in the absence of a site-based consultant. On average there are about 30-40 acute admissions per day through the AMU with a well-established front door model for Acute Medicine and Elderly Frail Medicine. The AMU is comprised of approx. 24 trolleys /beds, which the post holder will be covering when on call.
