Job summary
We are looking for a qualified Health Care Assistant (9 - 12 hours per week) to join this friendly GP practice and be part of an experienced, motivated and supportive nursing team.
Working 4 hours on alternate Saturday mornings in our extended hours clinic and up to 10 hours on a Thursday each week. Possible ad-hoc additional hours to cover team absence.
Our Healthcare Assistant should have general practice experience and a breath of knowledge.
If you are your household are patients at Hightown Surgery if successful at interview you would be required to register at another GP surgery to retain confidentiality.
Main duties of the job
Main duties of the job
To support the practice nursing and administrative teams in the delivery of clinical and administrative services, working as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.
Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Main clinical duties:
NHS Health Checks Phlebotomy/VenepunctureSupport practice nurses with health promotion programmesSupport practice nurses with management of chronic disease clinics.Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately. ECG recording Basic urinalysis and completion of microbiology forms as necessary. Learning Disability Health Checks To assist PNs with data inputting before the diabetic/CHD clinic, e.g., BP, weight, smoking status. Memory testing Supporting vaccination clinics B12 injections Weight referralsSupporting coil clinicsSimple wound dressingsOccasional home visits or care home visits where necessaryAct as chaperone as requiredEnsure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with guidelinesEnsure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins are replaced in accordance with IPC policyDeliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriateComplete opening and closing procedures in accordance with duty rota.Support and participate in shared learning within the organisationSupport the practice to adhere to infection protection controls.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
*Qualifications appropriate to the role. *Health care qualification (level 3 or 4). *HCA Care Certificate *Experience working as a Healthcare Assistant preferably in Primary Care. *Must have own transport and full driving licence as occasional home visits/care home visits will be required.
Desirable
*Primary care experience *Phlebotomy certification *Vaccination certification *Ability to record accurate clinical notes *Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure
Experience Essential
*Experience working in a GP Practice *Experience working within a nursing team

Experience of simple wound dressings
