About this role

Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic HCPC-registered or soon to be registered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to join our Trustwide Intensive Support Team for behaviours that challenge in dementia. This post is fixed-term to provide maternity leave cover.

You will work with care homes to deliver psychological assessment, formulation and evidence-based interventions for people with dementia in distress with unmet needs.

We would love to hear from you if you are passionate about improving quality of life for people with dementia, their carers and families, and share a commitment to Positive Behaviour Support and compassionate, person-centred practice.

We can offer you regular clinical and management supervision, opportunities for continuing Professional Development (CPD), peer support from a supportive older adults psychology team that meets monthly to share learning, develop our services and advocate for the needs of older people, and links with the University of Surrey Clinical Psychology Doctoral Training Programme.

Main duties of the job

This post involves working with care homes and CMHTs across East Surrey (including Redhill, Reigate, Tandridge, Epsom, Mole Valley and Elmbridge).

Holding a caseload offering psychological assessment, formulation and intervention for people living in care homes with behaviours that challenge.

Delivering formulation-led, evidence-based interventions and providing consultation to care home staff to support consistent, person-centred approaches based on Positive Behaviour Support and the Newcastle model.

Offering support and supervision to CMHT colleagues undertaking psychosocial assessment and interventions for behaviours that challenge in dementia.

Working collaboratively within a wider Psychology network across older adult community and inpatient services, contributing to shared learning, service improvement and advocacy for older people.

Undertaking comprehensive risk assessments and develop effective risk management plans.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology qualification or equivalent HCPC registration

Experience Essential

Experience of working with people from across the life span with a range of mental health issues and cognitive profiles Experience across a range of psychological models including systemic, behavioural and individual therapeutic models To practice within a Positive Behaviour Support and trauma informed care framework Is interested in and passionate about providing high quality psychological support to people using our service and their carers
