About this role

Job summary

This post delivers stroke care across the Regional Hyperacute Stroke Unit (HASU) - Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) model for South West London based at Kingston Hospital and participating in the weekend on call rota at the St George's Hospital HASU.

Therefore, we are looking for enthusiastic and able stroke physicians. The successful applicant will join the current one substantive stroke physician at Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust, running the Stroke and TIA services here.

Main duties of the job

To contribute to the delivery of a high-quality stroke service, by providing daily consultant-led and consultant-delivered care to patients and support to the staff on the stroke unit (in conjunction with the other stroke Consultant) as per Healthcare for London Stroke standards

To lead and support the multi-disciplinary team with complex discharge planning. To contribute to the delivery of the clinical governance and risk management strategy to our services. To provide teaching, educational and clinical supervision for the resident medical team.

Consultants will be expected to provide clinical leadership, and work collaboratively with colleagues across primary, secondary, and community services.

Job description Job responsibilities

The post holder will rotate onto the St. Georges HASU rota covering weekends on call with the expectation of daily ward round on the 20-bed HASU (and outliers if appropriate) and being the senior on call stroke specialist for thrombolysis and thrombectomy (both of which are provided on a 24/7 basis).

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Full GMC Registration with License to Practice MRCP or equivalent CCT in Specialty and on GMC's Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT from the date of the interview or have confirmed eligibility for Specialist Registration.

Desirable

Appropriate higher degree (e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent)

Management Skills Essential

Able to communicate at a strategic and operational level

Desirable

Attended management training course Knowledge of finance / budgets

Experience in Training, Audit and Research Essential

Demonstrable commitment and ability to teach and train undergraduates and junior doctors. Experience of clinical audit. Relevant research articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Desirable

Completed 'Train the Trainers' course

Personal Qualities Essential

Demonstrate leadership skills within a multidisciplinary team. Ability to motivate staff, to facilitate appropriate changes in clinical practice and to work as part of a team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enthusiasm and approachability Commitment to continuing professional development and clinical governance

Clinical Experience Essential

Current wide range of general and acute medicine experience Training and experience in all aspects of Stroke Medicine including hyper acute management, thrombolysis and thrombectomy, TIA clinics, rehabilitation, MDT working
