Job summary

As part of the ongoing expansion and modernisation of the Royal Eye Unit we are growing our team to ensure we continue to deliver a high standard of care to our local community. We are recruiting enthusiastic and dynamic people to join our supportive and friendly team during this exciting time and as such, we are looking to appoint an innovative and high performing Specialty Doctor with independent out-patient clinic practice specialising in Medical Retina and Emergency sub-specialties.

The department is a teaching environment supporting the educational and clinical development of junior trainees and non-medical teams (including Nurse Practitioners, ACPs, Orthoptists and Optometrists) to support their development within extended roles.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within the Royal Eye Unit where our multidisciplinary team see over 70,000 patients per year. We offer a full range of hospital eye care services including specialist outpatient clinics, admitted care and an acute referral service for eye emergencies.

This is a substantive role based in the Royal Eye Unit at Kingston Hospital. The post is full time, 10 PAs per week. There is no on-call element and the post holder will be actively involved in supporting the Acute Referral Clinic (ARC).

Main duties of the job

The post holder is expected to:

oProvide clinical advice and where appropriate treatment.

oHelp develop the service in accordance with Trust policy.

oSupport the training and supervise trainees as appropriate

o Demonstrate professional excellence and efficient delivery of care in accordance with clinical case load associated with the post.

Candidates must hold full registration and license to practice with the GMC.

Qualifications Essential

MRCS or equivalent Full GMC registration

Specialist Qualifications Presentations Publications

Clinical Experience Essential

Have completed 4 years full-time post graduate training, (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) since first obtaining registration including adequate experience in glaucoma Evidence of maintaining a portfolio of CPD evidence Competence in management of glaucoma, medical retina and cataract patients Able to deal with general ophthalmology emergencies

Desirable

Teaching of junior medical and nursing staff Registered with the GMC as a specialist in relevant field Attendance at relevant ophthalmic training courses Competent in performing laser procedures

Management Skills Essential

Able to communicate at a strategic and operational level

Desirable

Attended management training course Knowledge of finance/budgets

Experience Essential

Demonstrable commitment and ability to teach and train undergraduates and junior doctors Experience of clinical audit Relevant research articles in peer-reviewed journals

Desirable

Completed 'Train the Trainers' course

Personal Qualities Essential

Demonstrate leadership skills within a multidisciplinary team Ability to motivate staff, to facilitate appropriate changes in clinical practice and to work as part of a team Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enthusiasm and approachability Commitment to continuing professional development and clinical governance
