The Ward Clerk is an integral part of the IGSM ward team, they will undertake a range of administrativeduties to support the running of the ward, under the daily direction of the Nurse in Charge with overallline management from the Deputy Operational Manager.

The Integrated Geriatric and Stroke Medicine Directorate is a large Clinical Directorate (Budget of£25 Million) that incorporates the acute Geriatric and Stroke Wards on the NGH and RHH sites,SPARC (Stroke Pathway Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre), Intermediate Care Beds in thecommunity and the Community Stroke Service (CSS).

The role of the Directorate is to provide seamless integrated care to Geriatric and Stroke patients in Sheffield. Care extends from the admission, inpatient stay, through to integrated care beds and long term follow up in the Community.

Main duties of the job

o Maintain the Patient Administration System (PAS), and provide admin support to the ward,nursing staff and service managers.o Facilitate the admissions and discharges of patients.o Effectively communicate with relatives, community colleagues, and members of the multidisciplinaryteam (MDT).o Display a positive attitude towards staff, patients, and relatives at all times, in line with theSTHFT's values.o Understand own level of responsibility, accountability and always act within own capabilitiesand role.o Follow all STHFT policies, maintaining confidentiality at all times.o To Work as part of the wider IGSM team to provide support to other wards including the FrailtyUnit as required.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

GCSE at Grade C/4 in English and Maths (or equivalent qualifications) or equivalent experience

Desirable

NVQ Level II in Business Administration / Customer Service / IT

Experience Essential

Experience of working within an office environment Experience of working in a public facing role

Desirable

Relevant experience within the NHS

Further Training Essential

Knowledge of / experience of using information and/or customer service systems Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages including Outlook, Excel and Word.

Desirable

Previous experience Infoflex / 59R Software Previous experience of PAS / Infoflex / SystmOne (area specific software)

Skills and Knowledge Essential

Understanding of data protection issues and the ability to maintain confidentiality Excellent communication skills, with ability to deal with staff at all levels Displays use of initiative with effective organisational skill Ability to prioritise and work to strict/conflicting deadlines On-going commitment to personal development
