Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to expand the peer support workforce in our ReConnect Service.

Our Greater Manchester ReConnect Service is commissioned by NHS England and is a care after custody service that seeks to improve the care of people leaving prison. ReConnect offers screening and support pre-release, and peer led navigation and support in the community, post release.

The Greater Manchester ReConnect Service is currently provided in HMP Forest Bank and HMP Hindley, HMP Buckley Hall and HMP Manchester. Our community provision offers support to people leaving prison whoare residing in or repatriating to the Greater Manchester region.

The vacanciy positions will cover all community boroughs of Greater Manchester.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Peer Support Navigator is to draw on personal experience and direct contact with the criminal justice system and valuable lived experience of wider health vulnerabilities. The post holders will empower people to connect, access and navigate health services, voluntary sector services and community-based activities and support. This role is to support and influence the journeys of individuals leaving prison to enhance their health, wellbeing, and improve quality of life and outcomes.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications Essential

Good level of secondary education Willingness to work toward attainment of NVQ 3 or equivalent in relevant subject.

Desirable

Willingness to undertake further training in line with the development of the RPSW role

Experience Essential

Evidence of pro social behaviour (e.g empathy, actions that benefit others) Experience of mental vulnerability and contact with the Criminal Justice System.

Desirable

Experience of working in a team Experience of training, teaching, coaching/mentoring others Experience of using a range of self-management or recovery tools and techniques

Skills and Knowledge Essential

Good written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Willingness to use the Trust IT systems. Able to relate to a wide range of people. Knowledge and commitment to service user's rights Professional in appearance and behaviour Able to manage conflict and to help others to do so. Ability to maintain a healthy home/work life balance. Good team-working skills Willingness to reflect on work practice and be open to constructive feedback Ability to work in an enabling and creative way. Ability to manage stress and to plan and prioritise workload. Ability to carry out practical tasks

Computer literate Experience of participation in service user involvement and consultation work. Experience of being supervised
