Job summary
South Tees NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting Clinical fellow in Cardiothoracic Surgery to join our existing team.
We are looking for dynamic forward thinking cardiothoracic Clinical fellow to join us and continue the development of the service. You will join a friendly, committed team to provide services for approximately 1000 cardiac and 700 thoracic cases per year.
Our varied caseload includes minimally invasive aortic and mitral surgery, major aortic work, an established TAVI programme, VAT lobectomies, thymectomies and robotic thoracic surgery. A robotic mitral surgery programme is in the planning stages.
Applicants should possess full GMC registration, FRCA (or equivalent) and either already be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of receiving their Certificate of Completion of Training ((CCT) or equivalent) at the time of interview. You must have advanced experience in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and cardiothoracic critical care.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will participate closely in all activities within the Directorate of Cardiothoracic surgery being directly accountable to the consultant staff. Roles will include participation in the pre-, intra- and post-operative management of patients under consultant supervision. In addition, active participation in the academic program is seen as an important opportunity for personal development. Audit and service evaluation projects will be expected to be undertaken.
About us
The appointee will be part of a team that provides on-going daytime care of inpatients. There is a corresponding Out of hours commitment. The trainees are responsible for the initial assessment and management of acutely ill patients as well as in-patients transferred as emergencies or semi-urgently from local DGHs for specialised tertiary care. The trainees are appropriately supervised by the middle-grades with consultant support. The appointee will also rotate through CICU and cardiothoracic gaining experience of the specialist provision of clinical care for patients in a high-dependency setting. There are consultant-led ward rounds review all patients. All other inpatients are subject to twice-weekly consultant review. There is a weekly commitment to the outpatient service with appropriate support depending on the level of experience. This provides an opportunity for work-based assessments.
