We are seeking a talented Quest Designer to join MachineGames in Uppsala, Sweden. Quest Designers are responsible for designing, writing, implementing, documenting, and maintaining quest and story content. A Lore Master acts as a human database of all established lore within a given fictional universe, able to identify ideas in development which is in conflict with established canon and identify beneficial synergies between new ideas and historical facts within the lore. Requirements Excellent creative writing and editing skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Experience working with a variety of established game toolsets Experience with one or more text based scripting languages Strong skills in developing interesting and fun questing gameplay with limited tools An obsessive interest in studying, documenting and accurately absorbing fictional lore across multiple given game titles Candidate must supply a portfolio featuring examples of their work, including writing samples with dialogue Candidate must be willing to take a short design test that includes both writing sections and paper design of quest mechanics Desired Skills The following skills are not required for consideration but highly appreciated: Experience creating quests for shipped titles Development experience on a live game Solid debugging experience with text based script languages Responsibilities Design quest content that tells engaging stories and introduces new mechanics to the game Implement quests in game engine Write character dialogue and in-game fiction, such as found notes Vet content for conflicts with existing lore Maintain legacy content and make required bug fixes Collaborate with artists, engineers and other designers to maximize the fun factor of questing MachineGames was established in 2009 by former founding members of Starbreeze Studios and was acquired by ZeniMax Media in 2010.
