Salary: £60,000 - 80,000 per year
Requirements
- Strong commercial experience in full stack software development, working confidently across frontend, backend and infrastructure
- Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring developers or owning engineering delivery
- Working knowledge of a modern frontend framework such as React, Vue, Svelte or similar
- Backend development experience with technologies such as TypeScript/Node.js, Python, Go, C# or similar
- Experience with relational databases, REST and/or GraphQL APIs, and cloud infrastructure
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, containerisation and infrastructure-as-code concepts
- Strong understanding of software architecture, system design, performance, security and maintainability
- Ability to evaluate technical approaches, communicate trade-offs and make sound architectural decisions
Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on technical leadership, set technical direction and promote engineering best practices
- Lead, mentor and support engineers, encouraging technical growth, collaboration and continuous improvement
- Foster an AI-first engineering mindset and champion AI-assisted software development
- Take ownership of technical delivery, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, maintainable and high quality
- Guide architectural and design decisions across frontend, backend, cloud infrastructure and data
- Help engineers break down complex challenges, assess alternatives and make pragmatic decisions
- Lead technical discussions, code reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions
- Work with product and engineering stakeholders to turn business requirements into effective technical solutions
- Balance team leadership with hands-on development and active involvement in software delivery
- Establish and improve AI-first workflows, evaluate emerging tools and coach engineers in their effective and responsible use
- Set quality controls for AI-generated code and explore automation of repetitive engineering work
- Design, develop and maintain features end-to-end, from user interfaces and APIs through databases, infrastructure and deployment
- Contribute to system architecture, technical design and engineering standards
- Build robust, maintainable and well-tested production code and resolve complex technical challenges across the application stack
- Support continuous integration, automated testing and deployment processes
- Address performance, security, scalability and observability throughout the development lifecycle
