Job summary
This is a less than full time (28 hours per week) fixed term post to cover maternity from 5th August 2026 to 3rd August 2027 and this post is NOT recognised for training.
The Dermatology Department forms part of the Medicine Clinical Board for scheduled pathways in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of dermatological conditions. The is a multidisciplinary team and close liaison with primary care and a strong focus on teaching and research.
The department provides secondary services to the population of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan with clinics at University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough. It also provides a tertiary service for paediatric dermatology and complex surgical interventions. We also provide Mohs surgery to patients in the South, East and West Wales areas. We also provide Photodermatology and monochromator light therapy to All Wales and also South West England as a specialist centre.
Main duties of the job
Prior dermatology experience with the ability to perform procedures like biopsies, curettage and simple excisions is desirable.
The successful candidate will be expected to cover outpatient inflammatory and USC dermatology clinics, support the day care unit, biologics infusions and day surgery. The successful applicant will join the consultant clinical team for dermatology and the experienced nursing dermatology team in providing Dermatology services.
Cardiff and Vale UHB is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of in-house facilities including cryotherapy, PUVA, phototherapy, iontophoresis, photodynamic therapy and topical treatments, patch test service and a dedicated minor ops theatre, Moh's microscopic surgery, biologic service and paediatric service.
The department has a dedicated day care centre for topical therapies, day surgery unit for cutaneous surgery supported by nurses and a biomedical scientist for MOH's microscopic surgery and a phototherapy unit supported by experienced nurses.
