Job summary
The Pathology departments at North Tees and South Tees hospitals are working collaboratively to develop a joint service with services being delivered from all hospital sites via hub and essential services laboratory arrangements. This will require cross site working as appropriate.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a professional, motivated and innovative Biomedical Scientist to join our team as a Senior Biomedical Scientist in Blood Transfusion. The post holder will be expected to work closely with other senior staff across pathology and in support of the development of the Tees Valley Pathology Service in collaboration with South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust, to deliver a high quality service to our users.
The successful candidate will be a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.The successful applicant must have excellent organisational skills, effective interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work using their own initiative, to meet tight deadlines.
Consideration may be given to those who do not yet have the required master's degree or equivalence or require support to achieve this.
The departmentsprovide a 24/7 service and the post holder is expected to work flexibly within these hours.
Main duties of the job
Organise the work and training of BMS and HCSSW staff working within the department ensuring all professional and Trust protocols are followed. Supervise the day to day running of the department to support effective and efficient service provision. Assist in the development of new and existing service provision of the department.
Work within the Health Professions Council (HPC) Standards of Proficiency for Biomedical Scientists.

Person Specification
Knowledge Essential
Advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques, Blood Transfusion and Biomedical science. Working knowledge of Pathology IT systems. Knowledge of ISO15189 standards Knowledge of MHRA governance Knowledge of relevant legislation and Health & Safety measures
Qualifications Essential
IBMS accredited degree HCPC state registration Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD) FIBMS, MSc or equivalent in Blood Transfusion or within three month of completing
Experience Essential
Significant post registration experience at Specialist Biomedical Scientist level or equivalent in Blood Transfusion Experience of using instrumentation and specialised techniques within Blood Transfusion Method validation and verification expertise
