Job summary
We are seeking one full-time (10 PA) Consultant to join the Paediatric Surgery department. The department has undergone a significant period of change in the past few years, and we are now a well-established unit with subspecialist practice embedded in the team. We have a commitment in the department to be collaborative, open and work collegiately. In our busy, emergency orientated service the ability to manage a work-load and maintain efficiency is essential.
The department functions as part of a network of children's service providers and offers a wide range of outpatient services across the South-East, in particular at Lewisham Hospital and Darent Valley, where the surgical team also perform day case surgery. Successful applicants will undertake outreach outpatient clinics at affiliated network DGHs and day case surgery at Lewisham Hospital. The outreach hospitals we cover are all within the South-East and Kent regions. There are district general hospitals where we offer outpatient clinics. We also accept referrals from these network hospitals for paediatric surgical emergencies and index neonatal referrals. The hospitals include Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells, Darent Valley, Ashford, Canterbury and Margate.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an individual with the appropriate skills and personal attributes to complement the existing team members and support the department as we to continue to build the service to be at the forefront of clinical and academic excellence. You must be fully registered with the GMC, hold a License to Practice and ideally be on the Specialist Register.The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years) and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Clinical Experience Essential
Tertiary Lower GI surgical experience Experience of managing children with surgical issues in the context of multi-system conditions including congenital cardiac disease, renal disease, and neurological and metabolic conditions. Evidence of continuing medical education (existing consultants must demonstrate active participation in CPD)

Consultant-level experience in paediatric Lower GI Surgery Dedicated sub- Speciality training, e.g. post CCT fellowship in Lower GI surgery including experiences in inflammatory bowel disease surgery Experience in leading/developing services with allied health professionals relevant to colorectal surgery e.g. bowel management program

Skills and experience in laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgical techniques Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team Ability to provide specialist paediatric and neonatal surgery on call cover independently Ability to make cohesive and comprehensive clinical management plans for complex patients in an MDT setting
