Requirements
- Bachelors degree in a relevant field, including computational, numerate, or life sciences, or equivalent experience
- Cloud experience, preferably with Google Cloud and Cloud Run, including core web application infrastructure
- Strong Python skills
- Unit testing experience, such as pytest
- Experience with Terraform for infrastructure as code
- Knowledge of agile practices and ability to work in agile software development environments
- Strong knowledge of modern software development tools and practices, such as Git/GitHub and DevOps deployment tools, with experience committing early and deploying often
- Preferred: Demonstrated Python backend development experience, such as using FastAPI
- Preferred: Experience with biological or scientific data, such as genomics, transcriptomics, or proteomics, or experience in the pharmaceutical industry
- Preferred: Knowledge of AI/ML approaches and deployment of AI/ML-powered applications, especially language models, NLP, or agent-based approaches
- Preferred: Experience with Docker or containerized applications, especially multi-container application architecture
- Preferred: Technical leadership experience leading development projects or teams; experience leading large software projects involving multiple cross-functional teams or stakeholders is a strong advantage
- Preferred: Experience upholding software and production best practices, as well as mentoring or coaching; willingness and demonstrated ability in these areas are also sufficient
- Preferred: Some frontend software development experience, such as React or Vue
Responsibilities
- Develop the backend for a Python web application
- Define and deploy infrastructure within our cloud environment
- Integrate AI/ML components with frontend, data, and compute infrastructure
- Deliver high-quality software implementations according to best practices, including automated test suites and documentation
- Develop, measure, and monitor key metrics for tools and services, and continually seek to improve them
- Participate in code reviews and continually improve personal, team, and product standards
- Liaise with technical staff and data engineers across our team and allied teams to build an end-to-end pipeline that consumes other data products
