Skilled Laborer @ Aerotek

Job Title: Skilled LaborerJob DescriptionWe are seeking skilled laborers to fabricate all components of timber structures, including mass timber products like glue-laminated beams, laminated veneer lumber, nail-laminated timber, and dowel-laminated timber, as well as steel connectors, cables, and castings. You will work on integrated structural panels complete with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems pre-installed in the shop.

Responsibilities

• Measure, mark, cut, and assemble elements to specification.
• Read and follow shop drawings, cut lists, and production schedules.
• Operate saws to cut wood to size.
• Sand and clean panels.
• Coat panels and package glulams and panels.
• Assist with panel fabrication by inserting screws and dowels.
• Use nail gun to attach plywood panels.
• Operate power and air tools, including hand drills, skill saws, chop saws, and sanders.
• Work with plywood sheets.
• Perform clean-up tasks.
• Occasionally work in the yard, about 10% or less.
• Operate wood production machines.

Essential Skills

• Experience with hand and power tools, including drills, skill saws, hammers, nail guns, sanders, and measuring tapes.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints.
• Strong verbal and reading communication skills.
• Capability to perform heavy lifting.
• Steel Toe Work Boots.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Construction experience is a plus.
• Experience with mass timber, timber framing, or structural wood products.
• Sawmill or wood planing machine experience.
• Willingness to learn.
• Good attitude and reliability.
• Punctuality and eagerness to be present.

Work EnvironmentThe work environment is dynamic and fast-paced, with an open production floor and proper ventilation. Candidates will primarily work indoors in a wood production facility, with less than 10% of work occurring in the yard. The shop culture encourages good communication and hands-on work. There are approximately 50 employees on site, and cross-training opportunities abound. The shift schedule is Monday to Thursday, from 4:30 pm to 3 am, with an afternoon premium.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Abbotsford, BC.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
