Job DescriptionThe General Production Worker (1st Shift) serves as an entry-level role within the production area, performing a variety of general labor and utility tasks rather than being tied to a single function. This position supports meat processing operations by following established policies, procedures, and food safety standards while maintaining a clean, efficient, and safe work environment. You will work on the production floor in a fast-paced setting, assisting with equipment, product handling, sanitation, and basic quality checks to ensure smooth and continuous operations.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to production operations by following all policies and procedures related to meat processing, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations.
  • Maintain all production areas in clean and sanitary condition, promptly reporting any issues that may lead to unsanitary conditions.
  • Remove product and packing materials from the floor and properly dispose of or store them as required.
  • Properly dispose of and track inedible products according to established procedures.
  • Separate and remove trash and recycling from production areas to designated locations.
  • Stage production areas with empty containers and necessary supplies to prepare for the following shift.
  • Assist with preparing and disassembling equipment for meat-processing operations or sanitation activities.
  • Assist with the collection, opening, and reuse of rework materials, ensuring proper identification of product and line to prevent cross-contamination and allergen issues.
  • Provide relief for co-workers during breaks, which may involve assisting in different positions on the production line.
  • Accurately complete all assigned paperwork and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Assist in training new employees by demonstrating tasks and ensuring they understand procedures and safety requirements.
  • Check in with the area leadership at the end of the shift for any additional pass-down or shutdown activities that need to be completed.
  • Perform visual inspection of cases to ensure labels are present, legible, and include correct code dates.
  • Make routine adjustments to machinery to support smooth production, including changing tape, code dates, ink, paper, film, cardboard, or pallets as needed.
  • Operate a manual hand jack to move materials and product safely around the production area.
  • Communicate equipment malfunctions or irregularities promptly so they can be addressed quickly.
  • Prepare supplies and workstations for the next shift, ensuring tools, materials, and ingredients are properly staged.
  • Stage ingredients in 50-pound containers to maintain consistent product flow on the line.
  • Arrange meat according to instructions and product specifications to meet quality standards.
  • Comb, hang, transport, and stack product continuously as part of the production process.
  • Inspect product on conveyor belts to ensure it meets established quality specifications.
  • Perform all job duties accurately and efficiently while meeting expected performance and safety standards.
  • Stand and walk throughout the entire shift while maintaining focus and attention to detail.
  • Lift and carry materials and product weighing at least 50 pounds as part of regular job tasks.

Essential Skills

  • Dependable and detail-oriented, with a strong focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to follow directions and work under minimal supervision while maintaining productivity.
  • Strong attention to detail in a production environment, including visual inspection of products and labels.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a timely manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Willingness to work weekends and overtime hours as operational needs require.
  • Ability to multi-task safely in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Physical ability to stand and walk for the entire shift.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to use both hands to handle, reach, and manipulate products, equipment, and materials.
  • Comfort working around moving mechanical parts and at heights, with appropriate safety awareness.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in general labor, general production, packing, or food manufacturing environments is beneficial.
  • Experience working with meat or meat cutting is helpful for performing production tasks.
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed to access equipment and work areas.
  • Ability to hear and speak clearly to communicate with team members and respond to instructions and safety signals.
  • Comfort working in colder temperature areas (around 30 degrees) and warmer temperature zones within the facility.
  • Adaptability to high noise levels and a busy, dynamic production setting.

Why Work Here? You will join a clean, modern facility that offers a structured environment focused on safety, quality, and continuous improvement. As this is an entry-level role, you have the opportunity to learn multiple aspects of production and grow into other positions over time. The workplace emphasizes reliability, teamwork, and clear communication, providing a solid foundation for building a long-term career in manufacturing and food production.
