Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of physical and virtual server technologies.
- Experience deploying and managing operating systems, including Windows Server and Linux/GPFS.
- Experience collaborating with technical specialists to deliver high-quality IT services across large user environments.
- Understanding of server monitoring and management tools, such as Nagios and SolarWinds.
- Knowledge of IT backup standards, policies and procedures, with experience implementing them in large-scale environments.
- Good operational knowledge of server firewall configuration, security and hardening.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex network and system issues and solve logical problems.
- Advantageous: Knowledge of cloud and cluster technologies, particularly AWS.
- Advantageous: Knowledge of programming languages and ability to develop code independently.
- Advantageous: Experience with VMware technologies, including vCenter, vSphere, HA and DRS.
- Advantageous: Practical knowledge of SAN and storage technologies.
- Advantageous: Knowledge of SQL Server infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Support the operational management and strategic development of server, storage and virtualisation services, including our on-premises VMware environment.
- Collaborate with technical specialists and wider IT teams to deliver reliable, high-quality infrastructure services.
- Contribute to the design, implementation, testing and upgrading of systems and infrastructure solutions, ensuring alignment with IT strategy and architectural best practice.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies to improve performance, efficiency, productivity and cost-effectiveness.
- Support backup and recovery strategies, capacity planning, infrastructure upgrades and technology roadmaps.
- Monitor service performance and availability, ensuring agreed service levels and operational standards are maintained.
