Requirements
- Experience as a Systems Analyst, Technical Business Analyst, Data Business Analyst, or in a similar role
- Strong business analysis, requirements gathering, and process mapping experience
- Experience delivering enterprise reporting, analytics, business intelligence, or data warehouse projects
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, Cognos, or similar BI platforms
- Strong understanding of data modelling concepts, including facts, dimensions, star schemas, semantic models, and reporting architectures
- Experience with Kimball-style dimensional modelling methodologies
- Experience designing, supporting, or validating semantic data models for reporting and analytics
- Ability to interrogate and validate data using SQL or similar technologies
- Experience translating business requirements into technical specifications
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong understanding of data governance, GDPR, data quality, and compliance principles
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a structured approach to delivery
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Desirable: Experience supporting migrations from legacy reporting solutions
- Desirable: Experience developing or supporting Power BI semantic models
- Desirable: Experience with Kimball data warehousing methodologies and enterprise reporting frameworks
- Desirable: Experience with Snowflake, dbt, Azure, or cloud-based analytics platforms
- Desirable: Experience working in Agile delivery environments, such as Scrum or Kanban

Responsibilities
- Lead requirements gathering for reporting, analytics, and data transformation initiatives
- Facilitate workshops and stakeholder sessions to capture functional and non-functional requirements
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications for reporting, analytics, and data solutions
- Assess existing reporting solutions and determine whether requirements should be retired, consolidated, redesigned, or migrated to Power BI
- Work with Data Engineers and Analysts to ensure business requirements are understood and delivered accurately
- Support the design and validation of semantic models, reporting structures, and analytics requirements
- Develop process maps, data models, business workflows, and system documentation
- Support delivery of enterprise reporting standards and governance frameworks
- Coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT), acceptance criteria, and business validation activities
- Liaise between technical teams and business stakeholders throughout project delivery
- Support reporting adoption, training, and community engagement activities

We are recruiting for a Technical Business Analyst to support a major enterprise data and reporting transformation programme at a leading research-intensive organisation. The role will help replace legacy reporting platforms with modern Power BI capability and advance a strategic data and analytics roadmap to support better decision-making. You will work with Project Managers, Data Engineers, Data Analysts, and senior stakeholders, connecting business needs with technical delivery and helping ensure reporting solutions are scalable, governed, and aligned with organisational objectives. The position is based in Birmingham, with 2–3 days per week on-site, offers a salary of £47,000–£56,500, and is a fixed-term contract until December 2027.
