Band 6 Gastroenterology Dietitian
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our gastroenterology team at Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. We have a permanent, band 6 gastroenterology dietitian covering disorders of gut brain interaction(DGBI)/functional gut disorders (FGD) and inflammatory bowel disease.
The Gastro dietetic team consists of an 8C Consultant medical gastroenterology Dietitian, a band 8A clinical lead, 3 x band 7 dietitians, 2 x band 6 dietitians and a 0.6 WTE band 4 dietetic assistant. The team covers outpatient gut brain interaction(DGBI)/functional gut disorders (FGD), inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor dysfunction, coeliac disease and women's health.
The post will work predominantly at St Thomas' Hospitals outpatients doing virtual phone and video clinics with a focus on disorders of gut-brain interaction and inflammatory bowel disease.
Main duties of the job
The successful gastroenterology dietetic candidate will cover DGBI and IBD outpatient clinics, group education and support developing the gastro dietetic services.
You will specifically need knowledge of dietary management of DGBI/IBS, healthy eating for good gut health, Low FODMAPs diet, constipation management and dietary management of IBD including exclusive enteral nutrition, nutrition support, pre-operative nutritional optimisation and management of symptoms. Some knowledge of pelvic floor disorders and coeliac disease will be beneficial to deliver an expert dietetic service to outpatients. The important role of nutrition is valued and well recognised by the gastroenterology medical and surgical teams.

The department of Nutrition and Dietetics is made up of an Adult and Paediatric Nutrition workforce of over 100 staff, generating an income of over 10m. This is a highly complex service, delivering highly specialised Dietetics as part of clinical services across the Trust, and into the Community, including providing professional guidance for our catering services and ensuring our compliance with Nutrition Standards for the Trust.
We have a long tradition of clinical and scientific achievement and - as part of King's Health Partners - we are one of England's eight academic health sciences centres, bringing together world-class clinical services, teaching and research. We have one of the National Institute for Health Research's biomedical research centres, established with King's College London in 2007, as well as dedicated clinical research facilities.
