Job summary Job Summary The Congenital Cardiology Department has an exciting vacancy for a medical secretary/scheduler for 30 hours per week. This is a senior secretarial role is within a highly complex. busy environment, and the successful candidate will be expected to work independently as well as part of a team. The individual should be patient focused, professional and flexible in their approach to work.
The post-holder will:
Provide a wide-ranging secretarial service to a group of Cardiology Consultants (the number of which will be determined by Departmental requirements and the job plan commitments of the clinical team concerned).
For the group of consultants responsible for, manage the flow of patients ensuring pre-assessments, procedures and/or appointments are booked within the necessary timescales escalating potential for delays to the PSC/Business Manager to ensure that prompt action is taken at all times in order to support strategic capacity/demand planning for the organisation.
Undertake secretarial duties such as typing clinic letters, discharge letters and any other documentation required by the clinician.

What you will bring to the role The main duties of this role are to support the cardiology consultants and waiting list management of all of our congenital cardiac patients waiting for an intervention procedure. This includes neonates, paediatric and adult patients. The job heavily involves, scheduling, booking and liaising with patients using the correct IT systems. It also includes managing waiting lists to ensure people are scheduled in chronological order by clinical priority meeting trust targets where possible and escalating any issues or concerns to management and clinicians. The post requires speaking to patients over the phone and sometimes relaying difficult information regarding a procedure cancellation and requires patience and empathy at all times. The post holder is also responsible for managing the day to day secretarial administrative duties which includes scanning, typing and answering phone calls.
