Job summary
Ashburnham Road Surgery in Bedford are looking to welcome a practice nurse on a part-time basis for 12 hours per week. The working pattern will be working 6 hour shifts on a Monday and Tuesday each week with flexibility on the hours. The main responsibilities of the role include undertaking a range of nursing assessments and provide appropriate care/treatment in conjunction with GPs according to practice policy, protocols.
Main duties of the job
Undertaking health assessments, administering medication and treatments, and performing diagnostic tests. Providing and evaluating a range of health interventions to ensure that patients health and social care needs are met. General health and well-being promotion as well as creating individual, person-centred plans for patients with, or at risk of, a long term condition. Managing chronic illness patients and long-term conditions, in line with national and local policies and the practice needs. Prioritising health problems and intervening appropriately, to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care. Supporting and managing the health needs of women presenting for sexual health and contraception, and cervical cytology consultations. Implementing, and participating in, vaccination and immunisation programmes for both adults and children, including patients travelling abroad.

Person Specification
Experience Essential
Competence to undertake asthma, COPD and diabetic clinics and reviews, holding relevant certificates. Evidence of clinical skills and experience in treatment room consultation, phlebotomy, ECG recording, screening, management of long-term conditions, cervical cytology sampling, vaccinations and immunisations, assisting with minor surgery, dressing and wound care, and recording spirometry. Compassionate manner with an empathetic approach and demonstrable kindness in all aspects of your work. The successful candidate will value the dignity of our patients, their relatives and carers, as well as their colleagues at the practice. Knowledge, and experience of its application, in supporting long-term conditions. Insight and understanding of current issues in nursing and the wider NHS.
Qualifications Essential
A relevant nursing degree. Current NMC registration with an active PIN.
