Job summary
We are looking for an experienced senior clinician to join the Stroke team as a Specialist Grade Doctor, working autonomously as part of the Consultant workforce.
Applicants must have completed a minimum of 12 years' medical work (either continuous period of in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification, of which a minimum of six years should have been in stroke.
We are an expanding and forward-thinking department providing acute stroke services for the entire population of Bristol, NorthSomerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG), along with regional provision including Mechanical Thrombectomy to the wider Severn Region and beyond.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will beexpected towork autonomously andsupport the delivery of acute services, alongside outreachsupport to Mon-Fri transient ischaemic attack (TIA)Clinics and ward referrals at theBristol Royal Infirmary. They will also be expected to support bi-weekly ward consultant rounds at theStroke Sub Acute Rehab Units (SSARU's)locatedat South Bristol Community Hospital and WestonGeneral Hospital. The post holder would be expected toparticipateto the on-call rota which supports the delivery of thrombolysis and provides the regional thrombectomy service.

Qualifications And Registration Essential
MRCP or equivalent Maintain Full registration with the GMC Completed a minimum of 12 years' medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification, of which a minimum of six years should have been in stroke.
Desirable
Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or MSc) Pursuing CESR application.
Training And Experience Essential
Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent). Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required to gain UK CCT in General and Geriatric Medicine or Neurology or Acute Medicine. Training in diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular conditions. Experience with hyper acute stroke treatments including thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy
Desirable
Experience in thrombectomy referral management
Further Training, Management, Audit Essential
Evidence of recent CME/ reasonable training progression at this stage of career. Experience in audit and quality improvement. Knowledge of contemporary NHS management issues.
Research, Teaching, Publications Essential
Proven teaching ability. Willingness to undertake teaching of medical under-graduates & postgraduates.
Desirable
Proven track record in research. Willingness to undertake further research. Ability to teach effectively. Evidence of relevant publications in peer reviewed journals.
Leadership and Teamwork Essential
Proven ability to build and maintain effective teams. Have a positive attitude towards members of the wider healthcare team. Evidence of good organizational and Demonstration of involvement in clinical directorate management. Skills compassionate leadership skills. Evidence of positive development and change management. An understanding of positive leadership in the context of healthcare.
Communication skills Essential
Is empathetic and sensitive to the needs of others including patients and colleagues. An ability to explain complex and sensitive information, sometimes under stressful circumstances to others. Must be able to influence and persuade effectively. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable
Must reside within 30 minutes or ten miles from the principal place of work for on call commitments.
