If so, NHS Professionals are currently recruiting for Registered General Nurses to work at Southampton General Hospital in their oncology department As a Registered General Nurse (RGN) youll provide a high standard of individualised nursing in accordance with agreed policies, through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
The oncology unit is one of only 12 regional cancer centres in the UK, serving a population of around 1.7 million people.
They are a leader in cancer research and treatment development. Up to 500 patients each year take part in national and international trials, giving them access to new drugs before they become widely available.

Main duties of the job
You'll be responsible for coordinating all aspects of care delivery, as well as helping to educate patients, health care assistants, students within the clinical environment.

Professional Practice
To provide a high standard of care for patients by assessing,planning, implementing, and evaluating care for individual patients.To give and receive regular reports on the progress of patients,reporting immediately any changes in the patients condition to the senior trained nurse on duty, or the medical staff as appropriate.To carry out all aspects of nursing care, treatments, and procedureswithin agreed policies and procedures.To work with medical staff and other members of the health careteam to ensure that treatments are carried out within agreed policies.To maintain accurate records of observation, treatment andpatient/family care.To receive patients and their relatives in a calm, courteous andreassuring manner, participate in providing information and support.To ensure the safe custody of patients belongings and valuablesaccording to Trust policy.To participate in the checking and administration of prescribed drugs(Including controlled drugs) and other substances in accordance withTrust policy.To participate in the checking and administration of intravenous drugshaving demonstrated relevant knowledge and competence, and been authorised by Sister/Charge Nurse or Senior Nurse.To ensure that all equipment is in good working order and ready forimmediate use. Report any defective equipment or provision of supplies to Sister/Charge Nurse or deputy.To inform the sister/Charge Nurse or deputy of any untoward eventsor problems affecting patients or staff, where appropriate complete an accident or incident form.To support the Fire Group Leader, ensuring that all staff are aware of:Position of firefighting equipment. Standard fire procedure.To always uphold confidentiality due to patients and relatives andin all situations according to Trust policy.To ensure compliance with Infection Control standards, in line withTrust policy.To administer SACT drugs and complete annual update
Personnel and Professional Development
To wear the correct uniform and to present oneself in a professional manner always.To adhere to policies and procedures, and be familiar with the location of current files.To participate in the promotion of good working relationships within the ward teams.To attend meetings on matters related to the ward/unit.To keep up to date with clinical developments, and participate in innovation and change concerned with improving the standards of care for patients.To assist in the orientation and in-service training of new staff and the appraisal of learners.To take on a specific area of interest / project / audit / link role, and develop resources for this.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Minimum of 6-months experience working as a Registered Nurse in an NHS hospital setting in the past 2-years Previous experience working within Oncology
Qualifications Essential
Be a Qualified Nurse with NMC Pin and no restrictions IV Therapy Trained

SACT Trained
