Job summary

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Clinical Psychologist to join the Dorset Pain Management Service. The successful candidate will ideally have experience of working with patients with long term conditions.

The post is to cover East Dorset with hybrid working and face to face clinics in locations across the patch. the post if part-time for 30 hours a week.

The Dorset Pain Management Service is a vibrant service, consisting of an inter-professional team. We employ modernised clinical practice to help people coping with chronic, non-malignant pain lead meaningful lives.

We offer individual interventions and group programmes in various locations county wide; these are delivered by two teams across the county. The staff mix includes pain consultants, psychologists, specialist physiotherapists, pain and mental health nurses and occupational therapists, therapy assistants, trainees from various departments and our hardworking admin support team.

In addition to the clinical element, there is a strong educational component, and our staff are involved in local training initiatives within primary and secondary care; we also present our work and our model at national and international platforms.

Main duties of the job

The Psychologist will be expected to be accountable and responsible for the direct delivery of psychological services to patients with chronic pain. He/she will be skilled in assessment, formulation, and in the delivery of appropriate highly specialised programmes of care, including psychotherapy, where highly complex facts must be considered, and where expert opinion may differ. He/she will provide highly specialised advice to clients, their families and carers where appropriate, and to the wider multidisciplinary team. The Psychologist will need to be able to plan and prioritise their patient workload whilst coordinating with the team and other agencies. They will be required to meet the activity and quality performance targets of the organisation.

The post holder will be expected, alongside members of the multi-disciplinary team to facilitate on group pain management programmes as well as providing one to one support.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced with Adults Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service can present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Knowledge, skills and training Essential

Good honours degree in psychology, eligibility for graduate membership of BPS

Knowledge, skills and training Essential

Appropriate postgraduate qualification in clinical psychology

Eligibility for chartered status with the BPS
