1.0WTE 40hrs per week

Fixed Term - 12 months

You will be supported in the post to develop your own simulation-based education competencies and portfolio through:

regular faculty development days

one-to-one senior Faculty Development Lead support

as a learner on all our internal faculty development days

trust-wide and network-associated opportunities

programmed time for Self Reflection Sessions

funded to complete a postgraduate certificate in Clinical Education.

You will be supported in the post to conceptualise, design and conduct simulation-based research with the support of the Simulation Research Lead, Faculty Development Leads and the wider simulation team through regular research 'lab' sessions. You will be encouraged to present work locally, nationally and internationally.

Previous staff have gone on to complete simulation-based research at Masters and doctoral level and the centre has a presence at international level.

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for appointment to a Simulation Fellow within Medical Education. This unique post offers an exciting opportunity for Medical Trainees to develop their experience and skills as medical educators within simulation based education working closely with the Medical Education Department. The fellowship consists of an out of programme experience for a period of 12 months attached to the Simulation and Interactive Learning (SaIL) Centre within Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT). The post offers the opportunity to commence in August 2026, for one year.

SaIL has a robust heritage of fellowships alongside development of courses and simulation-based interventions for staff delivering care to the wide array of patients seen within the trust. We provide training and support across all professions within GSTT, including medical trainees, nursing, and allied healthcare, to promote safe and effective patient care. We provide point of care simulation, centre-based simulation and clinical skills training to help directorate specialities deliver their own simulation based education delivery plans.

Job description Job responsibilities

The post-holder will have an educational supervisor to support development in delivering simulation-based education, in doing so following our faculty development framework and develop a qualification in medical education. There is an expectation of participation in project work, with the opportunity to present work at local, national or potentially international conferences.

Previous experience as simulation education faculty is helpful. The successful applicant will assimilate the skills required to design, deliver and debrief simulation-based educational initiatives. As part of their development in becoming experienced faculty they will be undertaking duties such as quality assurance, peer reviews and supporting faculty development.

Applicants must hold full registration with the GMC.

Qualifications & Experience Essential

Full GMC Registration FY2 - ST4-7 or Non Training Equivalent

Desirable

Prizes or distinctions Presentation of work at a national or international meeting Publications in peer reviewed journals

Clinical Ability Essential

Satisfactory progression through training as demonstrated by satisfactory RITA or ARCP outcomes. Or can demonstrate satisfactory regular appraisals of competence.

Educational Capability Essential

Previous experience in medical education Understands and can apply a range of educational concepts Able to demonstrate personal and educational reasons for applying for this fellowship programme. Shows a commitment to continuing professional development.

Desirable

Demonstrates knowledge of career pathways in medical education. Good general knowledge / broad interest in academic medicine. Research experience. Demonstrates how the post will benefit patients in London in future.
