About this role

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated Dietitian, eager to increase their clinical skills in acute medicine, health services for the elderly and surgery, to join our dynamic acute services therapy team at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.

The posts will be integrated within multi-professional therapy teams to provide a dietetic service to a large range of inpatients, forming part of our Band 5 rotation program.

The successful applicants will have knowledge around nutrition support, including artificial nutrition support. They will thrive when working closely as part of a team and be ready to further develop their skills in service development, people management, quality improvement and audit. They will be involved in public health events and presentations, both to patients and other healthcare professionals.

In line with other professional groups, the dietetic team undertakes training of dietetic students for all placement types. e pride ourselves in being a forward-thinking department with a strong commitment to continuing professional development.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for providing nutritional advice and counselling to a broad range of inpatient wards, with the support of the line manager and specialist dietitians

With the support of the line manager & clinical supervisor, to manage a patient caseload through assessment of clinical need and effective prioritisation

To provide nutritional advice to patients, carers and clinicians based on clinical evidence. This involves the collection and analysis of anthropometry and biochemistry, consideration of the financial/social implications and distress to the patient, their medical condition and individual dietary needs and preferences

To interpret this information and apply clinical judgement and reasoning to assess, evaluate and monitor nutritional status and advise on appropriate, evidence-based dietary interventions.

To translate complex scientific, medical, biochemical and nutritional information into simple and easily understood practical advice for individuals and carers both on a one to one basis and in groups

To utilise well developed communication skills, both verbal and non verbal, to advise a diverse range of patients from differing cultures and ethnic backgrounds, including those with language barriers and variable levels of understanding and ability
