This role has multiple priorities with the safety of mothers and babies and good patient experience as it's main goal, achieved by ensuring a highly trained, competent and well-staffed workforce. It will focus on staff wellbeing and development, good and effective teamworking, an open and honest approach to maternity specific training and development with a strong focus on evidence-based care and learning from incidents.
Main duties of the job
CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIESo Create practice-based learning opportunities to reinforce classroom theoryo Ensure students achieve NMC requirements and escalate concerns appropriatelyo Support students in practice and ensure adequate supervisiono Ensure appropriate assessor-to-student ratios in clinical areaso Provide pastoral care and prioritise student wellbeingo Oversee support and assessment for Return to Practice (RtP) and overseas midwiveso Liaise with clinical teams to provide wider experience placementso Support staff involved in clinical incidents in collaboration with PMA teamo Ensure in-situ simulation training reflects clinical incidents and thematic reviewso Provide clinical support as required, including participation in on-call rotaso Maintain visible and supportive presence in clinical and training environments

Education & professional Qualifications Essential
Qualified midwife with active NMC registration First degree Neonatal life support instructor PROMPT/ALSO trainer

Masters level qualification or a post graduate qualification Teaching qualification
Experience Essential
Minimum 5 years full time experience as a registered and practising midwife Managing/leading team Broad clinical experience relevant to the post. A proven track record of operational service management at a senior level Demonstrable previous success in project management by engaging in the strategic direction and delivery plans, establishing clear work priorities with the team, delegating effectively, ensuring a capability to deliver, monitoring performance and giving feedback Proven ability to analyse complex problems and to develop and successfully implement practical and workable solutions to address them. Ability to think and plan strategically, tactically and creatively, and to prioritise work programs in the face of competing demands. A strong sense of personal and team accountability coupled with a clear understanding of the boundaries around delegated authority. Ability to collaborate constructively with internal and external partners to create the conditions for successful partnership working. A good understanding of the changing NHS environment.
