Assessing and documenting life and disability risk by reviewing customer applications and determining appropriate underwriting terms, in line with your agreed level of autonomyMaking underwriting decisions across Life, Critical Illness, and Income Protection, balancing risk, customer outcomes, and commercial considerationsParticipating in or leading process improvement and change initiatives to enhance underwriting quality, systems, efficiency, and commercial viabilityRequesting additional medical or financial information where appropriate, ensuring requests are proportionate and do not negatively impact the customer journeyIdentifying potential complaints and ensuring they are escalated and addressed promptly, with root causes captured to support continuous improvement and regulatory complianceMaintaining accurate, timely records of all underwriting activity to support reporting, communication, and effective business decision‑makingKeeping up to date with legislative and regulatory requirements, ensuring all underwriting decisions remain compliantCommunicating professionally and effectively with internal stakeholders, external customers, and third parties using a variety of channelsUnderstanding service level commitments made during the sales process and ensuring underwriting activity supports customer expectations and delivery standardsWho we're looking for:
Proven experience underwriting UK protection productsUK medical underwriting experience (essential)Strong understanding of mortality and morbidity risk factors, including financial underwritingExtensive knowledge of Life, Critical Illness, and Income Protection productsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsKnowledge of relevant UK legislation and regulatory requirementsExperience contributing to or leading underwriting improvement initiativesWhatever your role, we reward performance and behaviour with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you.
