QualificationsTo qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. Education: Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association(external link) (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation(external link) (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations(external link) (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations(external link) (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Applicants who meet the above basic requirements qualify for the GS-11 grade level. Additional Requirements for the GS-13 (or equivalent) Grade Level: In addition to the above Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) level, applicants must complete a 3-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science; or equivalent experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, and/or training. Experience: In addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements, applicants must have one or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing professional dentistry work for GS-12 level and above assignments. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Major DutiesPrimary duties and responsibilities: Provide comprehensive pediatric dental care, including preventive, diagnostic, restorative, and emergency services for children. Serve as a clinical specialist and consultant, offering expert guidance to dental staff and supporting multidisciplinary patient care. Plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate pediatric dentistry programs across the service area. Deliver training and continuing education to dental staff, including in-service instruction and development of educational materials. Support clinic operations by delivering direct patient care, assisting with extended services, and collaborating with healthcare professionals and community partners.
