About this role
The Singapore Centre for 3D Printing (SC3DP) is a research centre conducting fundamental and applied research in all aspects related to additive manufacturing. Our vision is to be the world leader in 3D Printing and a wellspring of knowledge, delivering state of the art and innovative solutions to the industry. SC3DP is at the forefront of developing advanced technologies and high-impact research in areas such biomedical, construction, aerospace, marine and offshore. It is one of the very few research centres globally with multi-sector 3D printing expertise. SC3DP’s research achievements, high-level industry collaboration, comprehensive facilities and resources have positioned it as a leading hub for 3D printing research and innovation globally. We are looking for a Research Fellow to conduct research and development in advanced additive manufacturing, with a focus on the corrosion behaviour of metallic materials fabricated by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). The role will involve experimental and computational research to understand how processing conditions and microstructure influence corrosion performance, and to develop in-situ processing and post-processing strategies that improve the durability of parts. Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with other researchers, including PhD students and research staff, to conduct research on corrosion-resistant additively manufactured metallic materials; • Lead the design and execution of electrochemical tests and corrosion characterization; • Characterize microstructure, phase constitution, surface condition, and manufacturing defects to establish process–structure–corrosion relationships; • Develop and optimize material-specific LPBF parameters and post-processing treatments to improve corrosion resistance; • Evaluate how reduced support structures and adaptive processing strategies affect the quality and corrosion behaviour of printed parts; • Contribute to the preparation of research proposals, technical reports, and project deliverables; Job Requirements:
• PhD in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field; • Strong background and in-depth knowledge in metallic materials processing and metal additive manufacturing; • Hands-on abilities in operating advanced characterization (TEM, SEM, XRD, XPS, etc.); • Good publication record (at least two first-author papers in international journals); • Experience on the LPBF process monitoring and software development would be an advantage; • Strong research track record demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, with the ability to plan and conduct research independently and solve problems systematically; • Good teamwork, mentoring, organizational, and written and spoken communication skills.
