About this role

Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Senior Mental Health Practitioner to join DAANA admin team (Devon Adult Autism and ADHD Service), as part of the autism team. We have two vacancies available- 37.5 hrs per week and 30 hrs per week.

The team will work with individuals across the county, and our health & social care colleagues across Devon, Providing person centred assessments and diagnosis for autism.

Working as part of Devon Partnership NHS Trust, you will make a difference to peoples lives from the moment you start.

Your base will be Forde House, Harrier Way, Exeter, however you will also be subject to hybrid working as required.

Our service provides initial diagnosis and assessment for adults in Devon who have not previously been diagnosed and whose symptoms are consistent with an Autism Spectrum Condition or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

Our service provides training and support to Devon Partnership Trust staff to manage people with Autism/ADHD.

Main duties of the job

The role is dynamic and challenging, the post holder will carry out autism assessments.

Assessment is a core part of the teams work and therefore this role, so the post-holder should have experience carrying out assessments with people who have significant communication needs and a range of different mental health difficulties. The service also carries out group-based work, consultation and training to other professionals.

Person Specification

Analytical and judgement skills Essential

Able to own problems and get involved in the solutions. Able to gather and assimilated large quantities of information from various sources, in order to reach a conclusion about a persons presentation, diagnosis and onward care pathway. Ability to manage risk.

Qualifications Essential

Health professional qualification, e.g. RMN/RMNH Occupational Therapy / Speech and Language Therapy. Relevant professional registration

Desirable

Post graduate qualification relevant to specialism Clinical Supervision qualification Training to level 3 in Safeguarding children and young people: roles and competencies for Health Care staff

Experience Essential

Period of post qualification experience working with a caseload of clients with a range of mental health problems including experience with autistic individuals/those with ADHD. Working within a community mental health setting in either the statutory or voluntary sector. Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency environment.

Desirable

Providing clinical supervision. Participation in user involvement in services. Experience of completing autism assessments

Knowledge Essential

An understanding of the Mental Health Act/ Mental Health Capacity Act requirements. An understanding of autism legislation, DoH autism care pathways recommendations, NICE guidelines for the assessment and treatment of adult autism and ADHD. Awareness of local health and social care structures and processes Understanding of recovery principles in Mental Health

communication and working relationship skills Essential

Excellent communication skills including the ability to engage with clients experiencing a wide range of mental health problems, and communication needs. Able to produce well written reports. Ability to communicate with a wide range of professionals from various settings.

Physical skills Essential

Ability to be mobile across a geographical area. Computer literacy.

Planning and organisational skills Essential

Able to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to manage own time and that of the teams. Ability to work flexibly.
