Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Burns Specialist Care for a motivated Band 6 Nurse with an interest in Burns and Plastics Specialist nursing. Previous acute experience as burns nurse would be desirable. You would be part of the Multidisciplinary Team to ensure our inpatients/outpatients receive the quality care that is essential to meet their holistic needs. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential to enable you to work effectively within a challenging environment.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development and/or implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
Is expected to manage a caseload of patients on the ward environment or Burns Unit.
Has knowledge about different wound dressings and able to perform dressings changes.
Able to assess wounds and identify any signs of infection.
Is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care maintaining a high standard of nursing care within the framework of Trust Policies.
Is expected to supervise junior qualified staff
Is able and expected to teach qualified and unqualified staff.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING Essential
Good general education Registered Nurse (Level 1) Recognised Teaching and assessing course (e.g. MSPP/PASS) Evidence of further continued professional development (Advance Burn Care Module, MSPP/PASS) Extended Nurse Training
Experience Essential
Experience as a band 5 nurse in a burns ward Experience of teaching students, HCA's and qualified staff in the clinical setting
Desirable
Previous experience as shift/team leader (desirable) Additional experience in a speciality other than burns (e.g. plastic surgery)
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE Essential
Good and clear written and verbal communication in English Ability to work required shift pattern Knowledge of evidence and research-based practice IT literate Good time management skills Ability to work within a team and independently Managerial and leadership ability
