As our Homecare service continues to grow, a new and exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Senior Pharmacy Homecare Coordinator to join our Pharmacy Homecare team across both Bedfordshire Hospital sites.

You will play a key role in coordinating the safe, efficient and timely supply of high-risk medicines to patients in their own homes. Working closely with Homecare providers, clinical teams and Pharmacy colleagues, you will coordinate and process Homecare prescriptions and generate orders, helping to provide a seamless service for patients.

You will also be a key point of contact for day-to-day queries, supporting the smooth running of the service, and colleagues within the Homecare team.

Main duties of the job

1. To carry out a range of duties associated with the ordering and receipt of medicines provided through all suppliers and Homecare providers used by the Trust using the Pharmacy computer systems.

2. To support and assist the Principal Pharmacy Technician in the effective supply of medicine to patients via Homecare providers for Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

3. In conjunction with the Principal Pharmacy Technician, to assist in the development of Homecare services for the safe and timely supply of medication to patients by establishing robust methods of managing workflow.

4. To coordinate the day-to-day running of the Homecare service and act as a point of contact for any escalation to the Senior Leadership/Management team, in the absence of the Principal Pharmacy Technician and Lead Homecare Technician.

5. Provide administrative support to the ASU team in coordinating Homecare prescriptions for patients treated on the chemotherapy unit

6. Provide administrative support to various clinical teams that use Homecare to streamline prescription management and processing

7. To lead all prescription management within Homecare, maintaining fluidity between clinics and the Homecare team to ensure a consistent and manageable workflow.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

English and Mathematics and 2 other subjects at GCSE level grade C or above Level 3 NVQ units in relevant Pharmaceutical area or equivalent experience, or willing to undertake

Desirable

Recognised competency to undertake Homecare prescription validation - PWDS course or equivalent (or willing to undertake) In-house leadership training (or willing to undertake)

Experience Essential

Experience of working to deadlines Experience within Pharmacy speciality in the homecare services - acquired through training and significant experience Experience of data inputting - raising orders/invoicing Experience of running reports using Excel or similar Significant experience of working in a busy hospital or community Working within a team

Desirable

Previous experience of working with pharmaceutical products Experience of raising orders/invoicing Use of WellSky JAC to issue and manage pharmaceuticals

Knowledge Essential

Knowledge of office procedures Knowledge of sales and purchase ledger Knowledge of medication names Understanding of the need of confidentiality awareness at all times

Desirable

Knowledge of the NHS Understanding of the way that medicines are procured within the hospital sector

Desirable

Experience in dealing with anxious patients for whom English is not their first language

Able to cope with an occasional requirement for light physical effort Able to input data into a computer with accuracy Be able to travel between Luton and Dunstable Hospital and Bedford Hospital sites when necessary
