About this role

Term: Full-time, Term Contract (Two positions available) Term End Date: March 30th 2027 with possibility of extension. Location: Seabird Island Band Office, Agassiz, BC Status: In-Office

Schedule: 4 Days a week during the week for afternoons/evenings & one weekend day. Salary: Starting from $34.60 an hour – Depending on skills and experiences.

About the Role:

The Youth and Young Adults Connections Specialist plays a meaningful role in supporting high-risk youth and young adults through culturally grounded programming, mentorship, recreation, and wellness initiatives. Working closely with participants, families, Elders, and community partners, you will create safe, engaging spaces that foster resilience, personal growth, positive connections, and a strong sense of belonging. This opportunity is ideal for someone passionate about empowering Indigenous youth, strengthening community relationships, and making a lasting impact through prevention and intervention support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and deliver culturally relevant prevention and intervention programming for high-risk youth and young adults.

• Facilitate recreational, wellness, life-skills, and personal development activities.

• Provide one-on-one mentorship, support, and goal planning for participants.

• Foster positive relationships that encourage growth, self-esteem, and healthy decision-making.

• Support youth in accessing community, educational, employment, and wellness resources.

• Engage and collaborate with families to strengthen support networks and family connections.

• Coordinate outreach efforts to connect with disengaged or vulnerable youth.

• Incorporate Indigenous cultural teachings, traditions, and land-based activities into programming.

• Partner with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community leaders, and internal departments to provide holistic support.

• Promote physical, emotional, mental, and cultural wellness through inclusive programming.

• Maintain confidential participant records, track outcomes, and prepare program reports.

• Ensure compliance with organizational policies, safety standards, and funding requirements.

• Participate in team planning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and ongoing professional development.

• Support community initiatives and perform other related duties as required.

About You:

You are a relationship-builder with a genuine passion for supporting Indigenous youth and young adults. Drawing on your experience in youth engagement, mentorship, community development, or social services, you create trusting connections and inspire positive change through empathy, cultural awareness, and a strengths-based approach. You are confident facilitating programs, navigating complex situations, collaborating with families and community partners, and promoting wellness while honoring Indigenous cultures, teachings, and values.

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma or Degree in social sciences, advocacy, community development, social work, or a related field. We also recognize and value cultural knowledge and experience gained through other forms of education and training, including teachings from Elders and Knowledge Keepers.

• Experience working with Indigenous communities and understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and contemporary issues.

• Proven ability to engage and motivate high-risk individuals through positive reinforcement and mentorship.

• Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and lead group activities and workshops.

• Strong facilitation, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.

• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

• At least 3 years of relevant experience working within Indigenous communities, focusing on at risk youth and young adults.
