About this role
Job title:
Social Video Editor
Reports to:
Executive Creative Director with dotted line to the VP Livespot Connect
Job Summary:
• Transform stories, experiences and creative work into engaging short- and long-form video content for platforms like Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
• The ideal candidate has a strong eye for storytelling, pacing, sharp cuts and engaging moments, with the instinct to create content that captures attention, sparks conversations and strengthens our digital presence.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Find the story
• Review long-form footage, interviews, events, podcasts, BTS content, campaigns and other brand material to identify the strongest moments.
• Find the moments that are funny, surprising, insightful, emotional, provocative or simply interesting enough to make people stop scrolling.
• Turn conversations and raw footage into compelling short-form and long-form stories.
Edit for digital first platforms
• Create video content for Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, full-length YouTube videos and other digital platforms.
• Edit for retention, strong hooks, pacing, cuts, captions, visual changes and storytelling that keep people watching.
• Create multiple cuts and formats from a single piece of content where appropriate.
• Understand that a video designed for Instagram may not need to be edited the same way as one designed for TikTok or YouTube.
• Add subtitles, graphics, sound design, music, transitions and other elements where they improve the story rather than simply decorate it.
• Adapt content for different aspect ratios, runtimes, audiences and platform behaviours.
• Turn short clips into complete stories and structure longer videos with a clear narrative.
• Edit both conversation-led and visually driven content, keeping work polished without over-editing.
Show our work
• Translate the work we do across entertainment, culture, creativity, technology and experiences into content that people can understand and engage with.
• Help make our projects, people, ideas and experiences visible beyond the room in which they happen.
• Turn moments from our work into content that gives people a reason to follow, comment, share and come back.
Build Conversations
• Work closely with the marketing and creative teams to identify stories and conversations worth amplifying.
• Understand how an edit can change the way a conversation lands.
• Develop cuts that don’t just communicate what happened, but give audiences something to react to.
• Stay aware of conversations, formats, trends and editing styles that are gaining traction online and know when — and when not — to use them.
Contribute to social growth
• Think beyond individual videos and understand how content contributes to the growth of our digital platforms.
• Pay attention to views, watch time, retention, shares, saves, comments and other indicators of performance.
• Learn from what performs and continuously improve the way we package our content.
• Help build a recognisable video language for the brand.
• Responsible for using and maintaining the filing system of the company at all times and in line with existing policies.
• Undertaking any necessary duties to ensure a first-class service is provided always.
• Being an ambassador for the business always.
Qualifications, Competency & Skills Required:
• 2+ years of professional video editing experience, preferably in digital content, entertainment, media, advertising, podcasts, lifestyle or culture.
• Strong proficiency in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro or equivalent.
• Demonstrable experience creating short-form and/or long-form content for digital platforms.
• A portfolio/showreel demonstrating social-first editing, not just traditional film or commercial work.
• Experience working with dialogue-heavy footage, interviews, podcasts or unscripted content is a strong advantage.
• Experience shooting video, operating cameras or working with basic lighting and sound equipment is a plus.
• Experienced Microsoft Office user, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Competent Internet, Email, and Google application user.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Location:
• Lagos, Nigeria; including other locations as required.
Office Hours:
• 08.00 to 17.00 Monday to Friday.
