About this role

The ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) is seeking a Research Analyst to join its Financial Surveillance Group.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to work at the intersection of financial markets, financial institutions, and regional financial stability. As part of the Financial Surveillance Group, you will support the monitoring and assessment of financial developments and vulnerabilities across ASEAN+3 region, while contributing to research on evolving issues such as financial digitalization, cross-border payment connectivity, and other structural changes shaping the regional financial system. You will also contribute to AMRO’s flagship ASEAN+3 Financial Stability Report (AFSR) and other surveillance outputs.

As a Research Analyst, you will work closely with AMRO economists on quantitative and qualitative analysis, research, data and database management, and the preparation of surveillance and analytical outputs. The role offers broad exposure to financial sector developments, financial stability issues, and related policy discussions across the ASEAN+3 region.

Job Responsibilities:

The Research Analyst will work closely with economists and financial specialists to produce the analytics and research that underpins AMRO’s financial surveillance work.

Key responsibilities include:

• Contribute to the production of surveillance knowledge products, including macroeconomic and/or financial system assessments, surveillance-related research, analytical papers and thematic studies, by sourcing, compiling and analyzing relevant data and statistics, applying appropriate analytical tools, and summarizing key findings. • Maintain and update key macroeconomic, financial-market, and financial-sector databases, ensuring their accuracy, accessibility, and usefulness for economists, and develop new databases where needed under supervisors’ guidance. • Maintain and enhance electronic templates, automated dashboards, and other analytical resources on a timely basis, ensuring that they remain current and effective. • Assist in the preparation of presentation materials and other outputs to support the Group’s analytical and policy-related work. • Compile routine updates on macroeconomic developments, financial-market and financial sector indicators in close coordination with economists and communicate them promptly to the Group Head and the broader Surveillance Groups. • Participate in research projects and provide broader research and analytical support, including drafting targeted notes on selected issues relevant to the Group’s work program. • Contribute to broader institutional and operational initiatives in support of AMRO’s mandate.

The candidate should possess:

• A bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, public policy, statistics or other related fields; a postgraduate degree would be an advantage.

• A strong background in macroeconomics, financial markets, financial institutions and/or financial stability, and econometrics, with proven experience with economic research, database and content management.

• Familiarity with economic and financial databases, such as Bloomberg, CEIC, Haver Analytics and Refinitiv (Datastream) and/or the application of econometric packages, such as EViews, MATLAB and Stata are preferred.

• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint; proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R would be an advantage; a willingness and ability to learn new tools and programming languages quickly is essential; familiarity with AI tools will be an added advantage.

• Experience and ability to use a range of visual presentation tools; familiarity with database management tools.

• Familiarity with emerging developments—such digital finance, tokenization and AI—and their implications for financial stability would be an added advantage. • Strong motivation and initiative, with a high degree of accountability for the accuracy and quality of data and analysis.

• Resourcefulness, as well as strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multicultural environment.
