About this role

Job summary

We are looking for an experienced midwife to join our current team.

You will be responsible for the leadership, management and clinical governance on our inpatient wards, ensuring safe, effective, compassionate and high quality care to our women, birthing people, babies and families.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve providing clinical and operational leadership to the multidisciplinary team, ensuring adequate and appropriate staffing, effective patient flow, compliance with maternity and trust policies and standards and improvements in the quality and safety of care.

Key responsibilities:

Provide visible clinical leadership and professional support to midwives, nurses, maternity support workers, transitional care support workers and the wider MDT. Ensure safe, evidence based and person centred care Manage staffing, workforce planning, sickness absence and performance Monitor incidents, complaints, safeguarding concerns and risk, taking action where needed Support staff education, orientation appraisals and ongoing professional development

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications Essential

Registered Midwife Degree or relevant experience Evidence of post-registration education Teaching and assessing/ mentorship qualification

Experience Essential

Substantial experience of working as a Registered midwife Specific experience of working in the antenatal and postnatal Ward setting Experience of managing and motivating a team and reviewing performance of the team/ individuals Evidence of delivering quality teaching to various staff groups To have a knowledge / evidence of research/ audit/ quality improvement initiatives

Skills and Knowledge Essential

Excellent written and verbal communication skills Attention to detail Management and leadership skills, including an ability to prioritise own work effectively and being able to direct tasks to others Ability to recognise the contributions of all members of the MDT Analytical and problem solving skills, including an ability to respond to sudden unexpected events/ demands
